I would dismiss your stanning if Van Houten had been submitted before. Had she been ever? Even if she had, the show didn’t have the support it has now anyway so she’d still not have scored a nod. Regardless I don’t think Van Houten is happening but she’s definitely at least 3rd behind Lange and Rashad due to the sentimental mood the acting branch seems to be in as of GoT. Jones isn’t winning lol. Rashad is. Don’t get carried away by the GoT overperformance. It’s different to name-check it on nominations phase because the year is weak as hell and it’s different when it comes to voting for the winner.
So Game of Thrones’s nominations are name check in a weak year but This is Us nominations are recognition of quality..August 17, 2019 at 9:41 am #1203027961
Rashad winning over Lange (I feel like I have to remind everyone she swept with that role) and Van Houten (the GoT name checking) would be very interesting and telling that actors really really love This Is Us. It would make me think TIU performers have a legitimate chance of winning in main categories (Ventimiglia mainly).August 17, 2019 at 10:24 am #1203028006
Or it will say how well they feel about Rashad herself.
And TIU has done well in Guest since S1.August 17, 2019 at 10:44 am #1203028019
JSUK, all four shows that won in the guest categories last year did not win any other acting award. Moreover, This is Us winning for a big name like Rashad won’t necessarily signal another big win for them IMO.August 17, 2019 at 10:59 am #1203028031
I think if Carice wins over Phylicia Rashad, we can safely predict a Game of Thrones full sweep.
Maybe, but that’s a dangerous line of thinking. Last year, when Samira Wiley won guest actress, Handmaid’s Tale didn’t win a single award at the main ceremony. Same thing happened with Katt Williams winning guest actor for Atlanta.August 17, 2019 at 11:39 am #1203028045
Ah, good point.August 17, 2019 at 12:28 pm #1203028072

Rashad is a highly respected actress (a legend tbh) but she hasn’t won an Emmy before, and there’s a reason for that. It’s not like she’s an academy favourite. It’s a very close race.
For Your Consideration:
Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)August 17, 2019 at 8:05 pm #1203028421
I think it’s hilarious for people to dismiss Van Houten. Her arc is perfect in that episode, in terms of a submission. And don’t forget, GOT has 32 nominations. I’m predicting Rashad because I think the overdue narrative will finally work for her. Plus, actors obviously love This Is Us. I don’t think Lange can actually win anymore because they didn’t really care about AHS in the drama races this year. Jones could win since Handmaid’s has gone 2 for 2 in guest actress, but she has some strong competition this year.
Emmys FYC - "Unbelievable" and "The Handmaid's Tale" in all categories; Viola Davis in Best Drama Actress for the final season of "HTGAWM;" "Ozark:" Drama Series, Laura Linney (Best Actress) and Julia Garner (Best Supporting Actress)August 17, 2019 at 8:44 pm #1203028443
This is Van Houten vs Rashad, I have no idea who to go with. This Is Us has done well in guest and game of thrones hasn’t been fully embraced by the actors branch until this year, but it does seem like that’s where the actors are now leaning so I guess I’ll go with Van Houten, who’d be very deserving. Of course Lange has the best tape but she’s not winning, they’re done rewarding American Horror Story.

I’m disappointed to see people supporting a detestable person like Rashad. Did y’all so easily forget how she defended that abominable Cosby even after 28 victims had come forward or how she rudely dismissed all the people who suffered at her co-star’s hands? How she chalked it all up to a conspiracy and was worried more about preserving her precious little show and its star’s so-called legacy than knowing the truth and getting justice? After Cosby’s confession, she not even ONCE has apologized and very tactically doesn’t address any of this now. A defender is as bad as a perpetrator if they don’t even have the decency or the sense to see their fault. Disgusting.August 19, 2019 at 8:23 am #1203029964
Van Houten or Lange should easily be winning this but This is Us scored 7 acting nominations and I don’t think they’ll let it go home empty handed.August 19, 2019 at 8:30 am #1203029973
All this Rashad vs Van Houten talk… watch Cicely Tyson come from behind and take the win! lol.
To be fair (and play Devil’s Advocate) Tyson is probably the most respected actress in the line-up along with Lange (true Hollywood icon and legend), the only other Academy Award nominee of the bunch, is on her 4th Guest Actress nomination for her same show and is long overdue to win another Emmy (it’s been 25 years, despite having 9 nominations since her win).
I also think Laverne Cox could take the win in a surprise due to her tape/role and the fact that she use to be a main cast member (or at least in the public’s eye). Plus, the rise of Pose and the visibility of trans performers this year helps her chances.
Van Houten is on GoT and that hasn’t done well in Guest. Neither do sci-fi performances at the Emmys, with the exception of Dinklage.
I hadn’t thought about the Cosby thing impacting Rashad’s chances. It could, but I don’t think it would (or else she probably wouldn’t be nom’d). Still, it COULD take away some of her votes.August 19, 2019 at 8:35 am #1203029980
Cox is definitely not happening she’s not relevant anymore and neither is the show with voters.August 19, 2019 at 10:01 am #1203030099
Rashad deserves the win. Immediately after watching her episode I thought there could be a whole series revolving around Rashad’s character as principal of a high school and all the challenges she faces and students she helps. I’d watch it in a heartbeat.
