Sometimes I wonder whether you like to create drama when there isn’t any because all I said was that she too subtle in her episode, in that the tape system, from what I’ve understood, didn’t always reward subtlety. I loved (with a capital L) Nicole Kidman in that episode and all season, which I have repeatedly stated here. So I have no idea why you’re getting so upset.

You need to stop taking things too seriously. I am just saying that I thought she wasn’t subtle and that I disagreed with your analysis of her performance (which is fine because we’re all entitled to our own opinions).

Having said that if we had the tape system Lead Actress would go to Linney with Kidman as an upset I completely forgot that Jodie Comer had an entire episode of Killing Eve to herself where none of the other principal actors appeared and she gave one of her best performances on the show. Had we had the tape system I’d say it would be Linney vs Comer.

That being said I do think Comer (and Porter if he gets into Drama Actor) could repeat. Both seem to have the passion to win but have trouble getting nominated and considering both gave arguably just as good performances this season in comparison to their last I would be very cautious of ruling them out if they are nominated.

I totally agree about Porter. If nominated I don’t see why he isn’t more considered to repeat and benefit from a Cox/Strong vote split. He has already beaten Bateman once, fresh off his SAG win. I haven’t watched Ozark s3 yet so correct me if I’m wrong, but even if the show is stronger, most of the buzz seems to be around Pelphrey and Linney, so Bateman himself might not be stronger than he was when Porter beat him.

Under the tape system Viola Davis would be competitive for the win, once nominated. Her tape is exactly what that system loved to reward. And if you consider the social relevance right now of everything she said in that speech on the finale… No doubt she would be competitive.

As for Comer – still talking about the tape system – she was on fire this season but I don’t think they would give her two wins in a row. She’s not on Close or Danes level of “undeniability”.

Porter benefited a lot from Pose Season 2 being aired from June to August. I think Bateman is stronger now.

I agree. I actually forget that Porter is even in contention this year. Why is there seemingly no buzz for the performance that was last year’s winner? I think if Cox and Strong are both nominated, Cox could overcome vote splitting but Bateman would be the one who would benefit if he doesn’t. Ozark will just be too strong and Bateman will probably win for this role before the show ends.

I still have Bateman in fourth due to a lack of passion compared to other contenders.

Jodie Comer isn’t repeating. She’s phenomenal, but she’d be following in Claire Danes’ footsteps (the only actress to pull off back-to-back wins last decade). And Killing Eve is neither as beloved as “Homeland” was at the time nor is Comer’s performance on the level of Danes’ – objectively speaking. Porter, too, strikes me as a one-time winner; his competition this year is too fierce.

Davis’ court speech is indeed powerful and would certainly resonate at the moment, but the episode doesn’t strike me as a winning submission. Her scenes in court and on the steps are quite showy and emotion-laden, but outside of those, most other scenes are very quiet. But who knows!

They apparently have four leads now.

Can’t wait to laugh when This Is Us gets in for Best Drama in such a messy race and gets all its 3 leads nominated once again.

I finally caught up with it the other day. I really hope they do. Genuinely choked up multiple times throughout the season, great performances and characters I’ve really grown to love. I wasn’t even a fan of the show initially. Would love to see Sterling K Brown and Mandy Moore nominated again. Both had great seasons.

I just realised how funny it would have been had the Emmys nominated both Keeley Hawes and Matthew MacFadyen last year.

How did you come to this conclusion?

Honestly, this season of This Is Us was better than virtually everything in Drama above it in the Predictions Centre, except Succession and maybe Ozark (I don’t watch BCS). The underrated (yet Peabody award winning) Stranger Things was also top tier entertainment. I hope both shows get in.

I can correct you here, this is just a bubble here in this forum, Bateman was amazing, he had his best season and he has as much buzz as Linney and Pelphrey between the fandom of the show, same goes for Garner.

I still have Bateman in fourth due to a lack of passion compared to other contenders.

Completely disagree, he is a SAG winner for this role and we saw that that eventually made a Claire Foy an Emmy winner as well. His acting in Ozark season 3 is the best one in his career, he is heartbreaking. And since we are all going to pretend that we knew who was going to be the winner when the tapes were important and our prediction were always pitch perfect, I think that he has the best tape this year along with Brown. Cox and Strong would have never won on tapes. And I bet you what you want that Strong is seen as the superior performer, he is the only one that get a TCA nom for the show.

Claire Foy won the year she won the Emmy. Bateman didn’t win the Emmy when he won.
