tv academy voters will make the distinction of her applying American diversity standards to another country that has very different racial makeup or no

TV academy voters won’t even be aware of what she said. And if they are, believe me they’re smart enough to know what she was actually (rightfully) getting at. This discussion needs to end.

I disagree with the first part because then you are basically saying anyone campaigning is pointless but as for the ending this discussion, yes same.

You’re like „why did the assault victim wait this long to talk about it”?  and it’s kind of disgusting. Oh has the right to talk about it whenever she wants and not be judged and disconsidered for choosing a moment when the whole world is paying attention. You really think she didn’t bring the diversity problem to the producers first?

The way she is acting like American and uk demo breakdown is the same is not cute. A bbc survey few years ago actually found that minorities in British media were over represented compared to their numbers in general population and bbc wisely shelved that survey. She is trying to impose american media realities on a country with complete different demographic makeup and I am not sure if it’s intentional or not but it’s pretty disingenuous. Uk population is 90% white.

What is the problem with Sandra Oh sharing her experience on Killing Eve? Do you work on the set of Killing Eve?

People like you contribute to the some of the problems that are taking place today. I get sick and tired of people trying to tell others how they should feel or what they should say or should not say when it comes to their experiences.

Some of the people on this site can be exhausting.

So let’s talk about The Outsider and the Drama Supporting Actress category.

I wouldn’t dare dream that with the extended lineup, the Drama Series nomination could also happen, but I think Bateman (for both acting and directing) and Cynthia Erivo could achieve the nomination. I mean, having so many contenders for the supporting categories and a lot of names for eight spots (so there’s no consensus) makes the competition exciting and unpredictable.

I feel a bit like people don’t remember Big Little Lies‘s second season that much anymore and the two actresses (Streep and Dern) can only feel safe because of the name-recognition. But even so, I wouldn’t take the poison to label both of them as “sure bets”, I could easily imagine Dern as a snub, for example. And it’s not as if Streep was able to live up to her awards run hopes for her performance. The whole second season just feels like a non-event at this point.

I have the same problem with the actresses in The Handmaid’s Tale. I don’t see the show enjoying the same popularity as it used to, so I’d be surprised if both contenders got into the nominees’ list. For now, I think Dowd is stronger than Strahovski, if only because of name-recognition and Emmy-winner status.

Then there’s Sarah Snook, for whom we will see if the category change was successful, Millie Bobby Brown, whose show also has a little less buzz than before (though I have to note that if there’s a show that I think can break from scratch and that can surprise us with a lot of nominations, it’s Stranger Things). Westworld has also not brought the same strong standard as before, so Emmy-winner Thandie Newton could also be in danger.

Not to mention Fiona Shaw, who provided her best performance this year and would now be a well-deserved nominee. But Killing Eve isn’t a strong contender anymore either, so it’s once again, not for sure. However, if people are still watching the show and checking off Comer’s and Oh’s names in lead, it might be a luxury to assume that Shaw’s name wouldn’t be checked off at the same time in supporting. So I think anyone who predicts either or both protagonist(s) to be nominated, should also include Shaw on the list, especially in an 8-nominee field.

I’ll be rude and I write that I don’t even play with the idea that Rhea Seehorn can finally be a nominee, I think if that hasn’t happened so far, then it simply won’t happen this year either.

Janet McTeer is an interesting case. Ozark is definitely the strongest show in this category, so you could say that it’d be quite obvious for the show to receive two nominations in this category.

I assume that HBC and Garner are the only safe contenders in this category.

    Prediction:
    1. Helena Bonham Carter in The Crown
    2. Julia Garner in Ozark
    3. Meryl Streep in Big Little Lies
    4. Janet McTeer in Ozark
    5. Thandie Newton in Westworld
    6. Fiona Shaw in Killing Eve
    7. Cynthia Erivo in The Outsider
    8. Sarah Snook in Succession

    9. Laura Dern in Big Little Lies
    10. Ann Dowd in The Handmaid’s Tale
    11. Millie Bobby Brown in Stranger Things
    12. Yvonne Strahovski in The Handmaid’s Tale
    13. Rhea Seehorn in Better Call Saul
    14. J. Smith Cameron in Succession
    15. Shailene Woodley in Big Little Lies

Laura Dern was the MVP of her season and arguably the most memorable part, just won an Oscar and has already won an Emmy for this role so I’d argue she’s safer than Streep.

I did not predict the nominees according to my own preference as I also found Laura (and Shailene) the best of the season, but Streep is a bigger name, and surely her presence at the ceremony would be impressive, not to mention that Laura had already won an Emmy for the show, and she is probably just the second focus of the show in the category. I don’t feel the show is strong enough to surely delegate two candidates among the nominees, but it’s not unthinkable.

Girl I just started watching succession (currently in se01ep04) cause I gotta keep up updated before the ceremony, and question: Is it ok to dislike any the characters? They are perfectly written and acted but I just can’t feel sympathetic for anyone.

I hate every single one of them. I think that’s the intention, too.

(That said, I think it’s what will be the show’s problem in any race outside of writing and directing.)

I think that’s the point because they are all pretty awful and shady. The real question is who do we hate the least and that would probably be Greg and Gerri for me.

Right, as much as I’ve seen Gerri is the one I don’t hate that much.

    You hate Greg?

I guess you could say the characters are arguably unlikeable in the first season but I should tell you that the second season of the show is very different from the first and that is the one in contention this year.

FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials"), Russell Tovery ("Years and Years"), Helena Bonham Carter ("The Crown") & The Crown, His Dark Materials, Years and Years, Succession and The Affair in all categories. The Politician : Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler and Judith Light.

FYC Goldderby Awards : MAURA TIERNEY AND DOMINIC WEST FOR THE FINAL SEASON OF THE AFFAIR

Glad that second season is different! And yes, I don’t like cousin Greg at all, he’s so nervous all the time and kinda weak/coward to my taste. Maybe I change my mind throughout the season…

The only character I feel bad for is Kendall and sometimes Tom.
