There is no way Big Little Lies overperforms. I think over performing for the show would include nominations for Writing or for any one of these actors:

    • Shailene Woodley
    • Zoe Kravitz
    • Adam Scott
    • James Tupper
    • Jeffrey Nordling

and Alexander Skarsgard (lol). And no, I don’t think Witherspoon would be a sign of the show over performing.

With this amount of competition I actually think only Moss and Bledel are safe. Whitford could also be safe but tbh I can see him easily missing. And again, I don’t think both Strahovski and Dowd are THAT safe. It’s true that Drama Supporting Actress has 8 slots but the competition is also extremely fierce and neither of the two received any kind of recognition from the winter precursors.

If people are predicting Streep and Dern though they should be predicting Dowd and Strahovski or at least some variation of that both of their shows got SAG ensemble nominations which shows that the actors still have support regardless of how their overall seasons were received.

Well guess the field will just be the Globe/Sag nominees then. Carter & Streep.

I meant that they didn’t get any nomination from a single winter percursor. Not even a CC nom. I don’t hold that against them but it’s always good to have some kind of back up from precursors. The Handmaid’s Tale doesn’t seem to be as strong as it was but then again this could all just an assumption and it explodes once again. Who knows?!…

I can see were you’re coming from but both Meryl and Laura got recognition from precursors other than SAG ensemble. Something that both Ann and Yvonne failed to do. But then again this are all assumptions. THT might just explode with acting branch once again.

I would understand the hesitation in a field of 6, but a field of 8? I don’t see how THT doesn’t get at least one actress in when they got 3 last time it was fully eligible, won the 2 guest categories last year with nothing performances and got SAG ensemble nom. Bledel and Strahovski didn’t get in anywhere before their noms for s2 (of course Bledel had won guest the year prior but that doesn’t really secure a nom in supporting, look at Martindale). Samira Wiley didn’t show up anywhere after her supporting nom for s1 and still went on winning guest for s2. I think The Emmys have always loved the show more than precusors, at least in acting. Also, I would like to mention Strahovski got in at the Golden Globes for s2 (replacing Dowd there)  despite not winning The Emmy while the show got dropped from Best Drama, which indicates she can still get in even if the show is weak and before Dowd (of course, I’m aware GG doesn’t mean much but it’s still an indication that emmy voters might also priotize her if only one gets in).

Dowd and Yvonne situation at GG was basically the same as Oh and Comer. Dowd got nominated there after winning the Emmy and Yvonne got a nomination after getting nominated for the Emmy for season 2, wich many believed she was going to win because she was the big supporting standout of the season. It’s not something that I would use to justify a possible nomination for season 3.

Also, Samira didn’t get any recognition after the Emmys for season 1 because her nomination was the definition of a coattail. It was a ridicolous nomination. She also won in guest after getting dropped from supporting. And she actually deserved to win that one. If anyone deserved to get in with Dowd for season 1, that person was definetly Strahovski. I still think Dowd is ahead of her. She has been nominated since season 1 (for wich she won), season 3 was her best and Yvonne didn’t managed to overcome vote split for a season everyone agreed she was the standout.

Can a THT fan tell me the argument for Strahovski over Dowd? Currently, I only have space for one and was thinking Dowd made a lot more sense but I am seeing a lot of support for Strahovski as well.

Well yes but Strahovski didn’t win the emmy unlike Comer and they dropped her show from Series, so there was no “need” to nominate her. I agree this argument is weak. I didn’t use Globes to justify her getting a nom at the emmys this year, but to show it’s possible to drop Dowd for her as it happened previously.

If I had to vote based on season 3, I would go with Dowd. But I’ve seen a good amount of people prefering Yvonne. But like I said in the previous post, I also think Ann is stronger than Strahovski for the same reasons I pointed out.

I won’t say you don’t have a point but then again GG like to swap and drop people all the time. One year they award you and then next they can snub you so… Strahovski kinda makes sense getting in since she had one of the most acclaimed supporting performances of that season. Maura Tierney also won in a year GG dropped her show.

What I don’t understand is how people think voters will check off Moss and Whitford, but not Strahovski and/or Dowd, when those two gave equally, if not more, buzzed about and acclaimed performances. And on top that, their category has 8 slots.

Not having watched the season until recently, I would say that Moss and Whitford have had more awards momentum at least (if not buzz, if that is different) for this season for the last year now.

I am not predicting it but Moss might have missed, in fact may, this year. She is saved by her competitors from Westworld, Big Little Lies, Killing Eve being on a downward trajectory.

I would say that among the fandom, Yvonne was definitely the standout supp. actress of S3. People loved Dowd too, but Yvonne was just more present throughout. I would vote for both in a heart beat because I think their work is mind-blowingly good. Objectively speaking, I would even say Dowd is the best actress on this show (she is so in control of that chatacter), but there’s more passion for Yvonne ever since S2. I don’t see why voters won’t just check off both (but anyone can surely disagree). But because of the passion argument, I’d put my finger on Yvonne if I had to choose just one (in my predictions).

My favorite character is quite honestly Aunt Lydia. Not because I like the actual character – it would be scary if anyone did – but because I find her endlessly fascinating. She’s so layered, so complicated and so brilliantly portrayed by Dowd. I find myself really paying attention to every word she says, because I feel that every word means something in regards to who she is. Sometimes having less screen time ups the significance and importance of when you are indeed onscreen.

Emily, Serena, Joseph and June are probably all next in line. Emily is probably the closest to second, because she, too, is so layered. Bledel is flawless in this role. Serena & June are very flip-floppy, which can be confusing, but they’re fascinating too, especially Serena with her whole backstory and all. Joseph is undoubtedly the most interesting male character on the show! The others can border on uninteresting sometimes, like Nick, who might finally be more important after that reveal!

Oh, and Moira, she’s great as well! The writers need to give Wiley more to do because there’s so much potential with this role. Luke has become very interesting as well, with Fagbenle proving in S3 that he can carry the weight just as well as his more talked about co-stars.

I hate Fred with a passion.
