What is the source on that data? Unless it’s coming from Netflix, it’s not reliable.

The Crown isn’t a show for the bigger audiences. I mean…do you guys seriously think that people around the world care that much about Queen Elizabeth?! The Crown is also a very slowed pace show and we know tons of people hate that. It’s more than a niche show but its subject matter isn’t appealing enough to make it super popular. I mean it’s popular and everyone is aware of the show. Like someone said Netflix wouldn’t have extended the show to six seasons if it had no popularity and audience.

Erm, my post wasn’t awards-related, I been hearing these assumptions about Ozark being the most popular show of the year/on Netflix here and stuff when in fact nothing really backed these up anyways…

Thanks for proving me wrong with that super scientific internet poll.

What The Crown posted are Netflix top 10 stats from FlixPatrol. Netflix is releasing his top 10 everyday and this site just reports it/makes worldwide rankings. It’s not a random poll althougth it’s irrelevant here.

You just explained why it isn’t winning drama series!

Despite it not being “popular”, Succession has passion, lots of passion. It won AFI, Globes, PGA, WGA, Critics Choice and got nominated at DGA and TCA (pending). And yes the massive critical acclaim helps.

It’s also not “slow paced” at all though.

I don’t think “The Crown” has passion, at least not nearly as much as “Succession” and “Ozark.” It’s tremendously respected, but I wouldn’t say it’s what people are banging the drum for out there. Its SAG nominations and win were impressive, but I keep thinking to myself that had “Ozark” been eligible with this particular season, HBC might not have been shortlisted and the show may not have won (I also think Linney would have grabbed the statuette from Aniston). But since that’s just a guess, I will not consider that.

“Ozark” and “Succession” were sleeper hits with their eligible seasons. Yes, both did well for preceding seasons at the Emmys, but no one expected S3 of Ozark or S2 of Succession to blow up as much as they did. The Crown’s third season, on other hand, was either as good as people expected or underwhelming, which is due to the fact that it had more expectations leading into that season than it could ever meet (depending on who you ask, I guess).

I still think Ozark is out in front because it has broader passion than Succession.

A lot of people here like to share their opinions with strong confidence, even though anything can happen between now and September, so here’s one from me: Ozark isn’t winning Drama Series.

Considering you’re not even predicting Laura Linney, Tom Pelphrey and Janet McTeer (for the nom!), I am not shocked.

The predictions are not locked. Check my predictions again on nominations day.

I love how you have all these opinions about Ozark when you haven’t seen it.

Maybe I can have an objective view without being biased?

Not sure what you mean by “all these opinions” of mine, but here they are. As I said before, Ozark is unlikely to win Drama Series. Bateman, Linney and Garner are safe for nominations. I’m not predicting McTeer, but Pelphrey has a good chance of getting in (I’m not calling him a frontrunner).

I don’t believe one has to watch a certain program to predict its chances. If the nominees were actually based on quality and merit, we would’ve had a very different slate of nominees every year.

Ozark is beloved by actors (4 SAG noms for its second season!); it won an acting Emmy last year; and its third season was a mega hit and came out when stay-at-home orders began being implemented. I quite honestly don’t know what else people need to see to take it seriously. If you need some clips, here they are:

    Laura Linney: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtm2Ylk-3Mk

    Tom Pelphrey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA_A5_6bXnY

    Janet McTeer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO3gk2G_Pv0

    And this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol5j6mHT8TQ

But I get waiting until nominations morning to make the final touches (as I will do that too).
