Fiona Shaw will never win an Emmy for that performance.

    I think it’s oficial… You clearly didn’t watch season 3.

FYC Emmys: Helena Bonham Carter (Drama Supporting Actress), Olivia Colman (Drama Actress), Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh (Drama Actress), Fiona Shaw (Drama Supporting Actress), Zendaya (Drama Actress), Alexis Bledel (Drama Guest Actress)

We did, but wish we didn’t.

I wasn’t talking about season 3 in terms of quality. I was responding to a comment regarding Fiona’s performance this season. I don’t want to sound mean but some of you should read the quotes and responses before making comments like this.

Jessica Frances Dukes has legitimately no shot. That’s one of the more absurd suggestions I’ve seen on here. Especially when you have her over Dowd, who hasn’t not been nominated for this role so far AND who has won!

I wouldn’t be surprised if she got in. I’m not predicting her right now but say all you want she’s kind of a NGNG pick here for me.

The Handmaid’s Tale is going to be weaker with the acting branch of the Academy this year than it was in 2018 and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dowd miss. After all Thandie Newton hasn’t not been nominated for role so far and won yet some of you are predicting her to not even be close to a nomination.

FYC Emmys : THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL, SUCCESSION AND THE CROWN IN ALL CATEGORIES. Tony Shalhoub ("Maisel"), Cate Blanchett ("Mrs. America"), Matthew Macfadyen, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook ("Succession"), Tracey Ullman ("Mrs. America") and Louis Gossett Jr. ("Watchmen")

Not much to add here beyond what I said in the previous drama thread but reiterating my stance that I think it’s a really big reach to think that McTeer has the level of support that would materially affect Garner’s vote total and that, like other fan favorite winners (i.e. Uzo Aduba, Peter Dinklage, Aaron Paul) we will see Garner win more than once.

Anyway is anyone predicting anyone other than Crudup or Pelphrey for the win on the actor side? What is the group that people feel like is in win contention on the actor side because that race feels a lot more open to me.

tbh I really don’t see anyone besides Crudup and Pelphrey winning. I do think they will be the top2 of the category. Who will end up winning of the two is a question mark but I feel like Pelphrey will ultimately win. He has the performance, the show and the passion. If Josh O’Connor had more material (and by that I mean screentime), I think he could’ve been win competitive but unfortunately I don’t think he will be.

I wonder if (whilst O’Connor was the better Supporting Actor this season) Jason Watkins might be the one who gets in instead. I mean if we’re thinking the British bloc of the Television Academy could have an effect in helping The Crown with some of its nominations this year there is no reason to think that this won’t help Watkins who is a veteran British character actor. I mean after all he does have a lot more material this season in comparison to other actors who have played other Prime Ministers on the show (excluding John Lithgow of course) and if voters remember the episode Aberfan they might be reminded of how outstanding his performance was?

Are you expecting them to lose SAG then? Because Linney and Garner are most likely going to be nominated against each other

Yes, for sure, no way they overcome that, this is how a weaker performance (in my opinion) beat them both in the face of Oh, because Moss and Wright are loved and respected enough to be always nominated in SAG, but not to win, so it was between Oh, Garner and Linney.

Although I think if Anderson is nominated with Colman then Linney has SAG in the bag.

No, if Garner is also there, in a case like this the winner would be the fifth woman, although, we do not know if Anderson will be better than Colman and HBC.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear on the conclusion. I meant to say that Ruth is not in the main storyline, that, in my opinion, is Mcteer turning against Marty and Wendy, which they built with the arrest of her daughter with the Byrde’s kids and then the revelation made by Ben. Ruth is borderline in all that, just making Ben stop taking his meds and go nuts over her beating, while Mcteer is at the center of it, like Ruth was in season 2, because the main threat to the Byrde’s was her father.

I see your point now and I agree in general but again, without Ruth being the detonator of Ben, we would not have had a story line.

    I adore Julia, but what?

Unfortunately, this is true in regards to the fandom. Fans will literally talk about how great Pelphrey was in the last few minutes of Episode 9 and then go on to say Garner is the best actress on the show. It’s total Linney erasure on all the major platforms. Again… Baffling.

If they were in the same category at the Emmys, they will cancel each other, this is more than obvious.

No, when regarding the industry and especially the academy, I don’t think this is accurate. And luckily 2020 isn’t so effed up that we will ever have to see if you’re right.

Ironically, if Linney and Garner were competing in the same category (if we believe the idea that Ruth is a co-lead to be true), I’d be more confident in Linney overcoming a vote split with Garner than I am about Garner overcoming a vote split with McTeer.

No doubt. Wouldn’t even be an issue. But again, thankfully, that’s an industry of peers making that decision.

Also, regarding SAG, I don’t think Garner will be a contender this year in the individual category. But I think they should have ensemble in the bag, given the lack of competition.

Or maybe all three of Anderson, Colman and HBC are good and get in so Linney wins by default?

I think that Crudup would never win over Pelphrey, but I cannot say that Pelphrey is the only possible winner until I see the nominees.
