FX’s Pose is the only drama series with a mostly or all black cast in the Emmy conversation and was nominated last year. Are most of us being foolish by believing it will be dropped from the Drama Series line-up??? I honestly can’t tell. I’m not currently predicting it, but I’m thinking about it.

The competition is just so heavy this year.

Imagine how bad it would look if they didn’t nominate it.

And great analysis of the audience. It’s very much in sync with how viewers reacted to Skylar, and reeks of misogyny.

Thank you. I’ve also noticed pockets of Ozark fans express discontent at how central and integral Wendy was to season 3. There‘s a perception of Ozark being ‘the Bateman show’, and Linney really wrestled that title away from him this year (much to their dismay). It’s always good to situate online audience stats within a broader context. It’s not as simple as ‘Garner won a Facebook poll, voters will prefer her!’ which I felt like the debate was veering towards at one point (not saying you were doing this).

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

Yeah the way the audience treats Wendy and Skylar is beyond sexist and strikingly similar. The way I just saw a tweet last night highlighting the “show’s villain” (White) and the “actual villain” (Skylar) when all she did was annoy him skjkf. And I don’t know how many times I’ve seen Wendy being called the “bitch” for not listening to her husband. Thank god the academy can separate performance from the character (and not to mention avoid sexism like that).

If Wendy was a man, people would LOVE him. It’s sad, really. I think most of the Ozark (bro-type) fanbase hates her because she’s constantly butting heads and going against Marty’s wishes.

    I think she’s badass lol.

Pose is actually being predicted for a nom based on overall odds. Hmm…

Spill lol. This season (and last) she was just iconic one scene after the next. The one scene alone where she’s just turning that house upside down was probably one of my favorite moments of the year but Marty somehow outsold as a character by talking to an FBI agent all season skdjsk.

And Pose s2 is one of the most acclaimed show of the season, so it’s not like it doesn’t have legitimacy in addition to be a previous nominee.

But it flopped at the guilds and precursors…

The Wendy/Skylar comparison is spot on in terms of how they were treated by their respective fandoms.

I will say that I consider Wendy far more complicit and corrupt than Skyler ever was.

(And Pose S2 wasn’t very good, although that might just be my opinion.)

The irony is, the viewers who hate how much screentime Linney got will probably never know that Bateman was part of that decision. Pretty much since spring 2019, he’s hinted at that story shift — which he then reiterated after he won his Emmy.

He’s expressed no reservations about Wendy being the focus this season, and his creative decisions further enhanced Linney’s opportunity to shine. I mean the guy has been encouraging her to direct since Season One, for crying out loud.

Those particular viewers don’t understand that it wasn’t so much a wrestling match as it was a baton pass between two friendly professionals — which apparently also coincided with Bateman’s dual commitment to “The Outsider” at the same time.

Unfortunately, unless Bateman expressly spells all that out for regular caveman viewers and elevated self-proclaimed “woke” viewers alike, they’ll never see that. But perhaps he feels it’s unnecessary to address… Sometimes giving something attention actually feeds it.

And yeah, I definitely don’t think online fan behavior has any bearing on industry professionals and their voting. But I did want to add my observations to that discussion, because I think it’s relevant to how the show and its characters are perceived as a whole.

Garner’s Emmy win last year — regardless of her competition at the time — isn’t an accomplishment within a vacuum of industry acclaim. There is a line that can be drawn between how both the industry AND regular people view her within the show, and I think it’s worth exploring a little bit. It’s correlation without causation.

I’m currently watching Pose season 2 and I must say I am inclined to agree. I think season 1 probably was my favourite Drama of the 2018 to 2019 season and would have made a far worthy winner than GoT last year. I’m still enjoying this season but I think it’s had a bit of a strange tonal shift that (at least for me) has brought the quality lower.

Billy Porter and the cast are still excellent though and he deserves to repeat this year if he is nominated. It’s baffling how it got shut out of SAG.

I ADORED season 1 of Pose! It was delightful. And while the second season hit serveral highs, it was structurally and narratively a bit messy. Would I mind a drama series nom though? Definitely not. S2 also gave us TV’s best moment in Elektra’s epic episode 9 scene.</p>

I haven’t gotten to episode 9 yet oops (but you’ve made me look forward to something!)

I totally agree with your rave review of season 1 of Pose (which I think is an understatement but still quite a nice thing to read from a fellow poster).
