I haven’t gotten to episode 9 yet oops (but you’ve made me look forward to something!) I totally agree with your rave review of season 1 of Pose (which I think is an understatement but still quite a nice thing to read from a fellow poster).
I find you so confusingJuly 9, 2020 at 12:20 pm #1203578368
The irony is, the viewers who hate how much screentime Linney got will probably never know that Bateman was part of that decision. Pretty much since spring 2019, he’s hinted at that story shift — which he then reiterated after he won his Emmy.
He’s expressed no reservations about Wendy being the focus this season, and his creative decisions further enhanced Linney’s opportunity to shine. I mean the guy has been encouraging her to direct since Season One, for crying out loud.
Those particular viewers don’t understand that it wasn’t so much a wrestling match as it was a baton pass between two friendly professionals — which apparently also coincided with Bateman’s dual commitment to “The Outsider” at the same time.
Unfortunately, unless Bateman expressly spells all that out for regular caveman viewers and elevated self-proclaimed “woke” viewers alike, they’ll never see that. But perhaps he feels it’s unnecessary to address… Sometimes giving something attention actually feeds it.
And yeah, I definitely don’t think online fan behavior has any bearing on industry professionals and their voting. But I did want to add my observations to that discussion, because I think it’s relevant to how the show and its characters are perceived as a whole.
Garner’s Emmy win last year — regardless of her competition at the time — isn’t an accomplishment within a vacuum of industry acclaim. There is a line that can be drawn between how both the industry AND regular people view her within the show, and I think it’s worth exploring a little bit. It’s correlation without causation.
Lol, yeah all of this. I’m almost positive Bateman even said before season 3 that this season he was going to get Linney an Emmy. He’s clearly a huge fan of hers and played a giant part in where the story went. I’m also pretty sure Linney said she was reluctant to do Ozark to start because the role wasn’t that great, but Bateman assured her that it would develop into something meaty as the show went on, which is definitely what happened.July 9, 2020 at 12:42 pm #1203578409
I find you so confusing
How is joking Luca’s description of Pose season 1 as ‘amazing’ is an understatement because I loved it confusing?

Tern Haven. Omg.
Now you know what we were talking about!
It will be interesting to see how Succession ranks in your personal favourites of this year.

Rhea Seehorn said game over to the other supporting actresses.
I’m begging you to not get our hopes up like this.
In reality, I’ve said this before but since its looking like more of a reality, I think if Snook or Seehorn are nominated they could win, but only if the other isn’t. They really seem to be attracting voters from the same crowd, and I think they could easily split the passion pick and the winner would default to Garner or HBC. I know people don’t support using the term “vote-split” in regards to performers from separate shows, but I’m kinda confident in this logic.July 9, 2020 at 2:19 pm #1203578645
I’m slowly coming round to Bateman winning. Cox winning is wishful thinking now – Strong has enough backing to create the vote split. I just don’t think Odenkirk has enough passion this year (maybe next year?), and even if Porter gets in I don’t think he can repeat.
For Your Consideration:
Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)July 9, 2020 at 2:20 pm #1203578647
Apart from Seehorn and Euphoria’s inclusions I don’t think TCA this year is going to mean much for the Emmy nominations. I mean Ozark was completely shut out, The Crown only got one nomination, Maisel was shut out and The Plot Against America got in over Unorthodox.
