Game of Thrones did never really breakthrough at the Emmys (acting wise) **considering its ensemble cast and the constant acclaim** 2016 and 2019 are the exception. I can see Succession flopping like Got in terms of acting noms, very good comparison.

Chile getting 24 acting noms in four years it won series is not flopping in acting noms (only talking about them because only these are relevant to a Succession comparison due to their positions in the series race).

They were literally the most nominated drama in the major acting categories in 15, 16 and 19 and barely submitted anyone outside of the core seven at the main telecast most of the time.

If Succession manages that kind of performance then it certainly won’t be a ‘flop’, in fact it’d be a very good haul considering its past history with actors and in line with recent drama/comedy series winners. Y’all are too much sometimes.

I love Succession and I think Smith-Cameron is great on it, but I’ve never seriously considered her as being Emmy worthy on it. She’s really secondary to the other characters and doesn’t have much in the way of a dramatic arc.

Totally, but I do not hold Emmy voters to the same standard as you or me.

    • 2011 : Dinklage
    • 2012 : Dinklage
    • 2013 : Dinklage, Clarke, Rigg
    • 2014 : Dinklage, Headey, Rigg
    • 2015 : Dinklage, Clarke, Headey, Rigg
    • 2016** : Dinklage, Harrington, Williams, Clarke, Headey, Von Sidow
    • 2018 : Dinklage, NCW, Headey, Rigg
    • 2019 : the other exception…

It’s not debatable at this point… and I wasn’t actually trashing the show, just stating a fact.

This is quite the opposite of a flop skdjsdk. Getting at least three noms each year after the first two seasons displays that. In fact it just shows an upward trajectory of acting success which is per usual with favored shows lmao.

GOT was far from a flop with actors, obviously, but I do think there is merit to the argument that in 2018 the show missed nominations for its two leads and also Turner and Williams but went on to win for its most criticized season (at the time) which had aired a year earlier. We’ve all sorta morphed into this check-off mentality, which is fair and GOT does remain largely an anomaly, but I think the lesson is Succession could only get 3 actors in, or Ozark could miss McTeer, or the Crown miss Lapotaire, and none of them would be totally out of the running for a win.

Plssss, they always submitted a lot more than 3 actors every time they were eligible and the guest noms are irrelevant anyways. I can even go further and say that they barely made noise at SAG and the fact that they weren’t able to win except for Dinklage just proves that Got wasn’t a strong acting player.

How is not being able to get a few actors they submitted nominated constitute a flop when that happens for literally every show? Guess This is Us is a flop for never getting Justin Hartley nominated then. And guest acting is beyond relevant lmao just check THT and their dominance. And just because GoT was weak when it came to wins (no one has ever denied that) doesn’t mean it’s an overall flop when its nom haul has been better than 98% of television. Your reach is stretching as thin as string cheese.

The random GoT discussion. Am I back in 2019? Are Sandra and Jodie vote splitting?

I mean Linney’s material was more baity than any of these ladies in the top 5, I don’t even know why you’re trying to argue about that. If anything you’re just proving that Ozark stans can’t take criticism.

No way Linney’s material is more baity than Aniston’s. If Alex got bitten by a mosquito, she would throw fifty slaps in the air, curse it and then cry for an hour.

Also, how did we spent five pages talking about J. Smith Cameron getting in? People need to understand that last year was an exception to the rule and stop trying to find the new GoT everywhere.

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

The actors loved to nominated GoT actors only to humiliate them after that, the seven times they lost SAG ensamble is the best proof of it (Dinklage being the only exception for Emmys, but not for SAG since they awarded him for his sixth and final attempt…

With Succession is different, much worst, they love to pretend that they do not exist. Even Succession biggest fans – the critics do not show love for the actors, TCA snubbed them all for season 1 and nominated only the obvious stand out – Jeremy Strong ‘ for season 2. Critics choice only nominated Matthew Macfadyen for season 1, let´s not forget that he is the only one that plays a character that is very different from him in real life. For season 2 they embraced Strong and Snook.

I have spoke about it before and I keep thinking it, Succession´s actors play a very obvious variations of themselves and this has been discussed openly, so it will be difficult for them to be taken seriously. For that reasons, I think that Strong (the best performer with the darkest role) and Cox (the most respected performer) will be the show only nominations. The only possible other nominations are Snook and Macfadyen (the star of season 2 and the only really versatile actor in the cast).

Laura Linney should be winning this very easily, with Kidman and Davis as spoilers! The fact that those 2 could be snubbed is so bad

Absolutely but most people here don’t like to hear it. Succession might be a very well written show but the performances are not that impressive.

The show wouldn’t be as acclaimed as it was if the acting wasn’t great. From the main characters to the supporting cast to guest stars, it’s an overall extremely strong ensemble.
