Mandy Moore isn’t getting in before Laura Linney.

My exact thought. Otherwise their predictions were pretty sound.

Linney’s probably more safe than Moss and Kidman, tbh.

I still don’t get how people can predict Moss in actress and Handmaid’s in series but not a single supporting actress from the show. I adore Moss, but the supporting players make this show IMO. Dowd and Strahovski are marvelous. And if they liked S3 enough to check it off in drama series, then they’re gonna check these two off too.

Emmys FYC - "Unbelievable" and "The Handmaid's Tale" in all categories; Viola Davis in Best Drama Actress for the final season of "HTGAWM."

    My reasons are:
    1. Supporting Actress is more competitive than Lead
    2. Moss is a previous winner and got in at SAG
    3. Series is voted for by more than just actors

All totally fair. I just think you don’t reward S3 of Handmaid’s without Strahovski and Dowd. But that’s just me.

But also, who’s rewarding BLL and not voting for Dern and Streep? Then if all four get in, who’s missing: Garner, Newton, or HBC?

I think all 7 of them will be nominated.

As I’ve said before, I think we’ll have 7. I predicted 7 in 2018 and we got those 7. This race is just way too crowded. If Dowd and/or Strahovski had had a weak season, I’d omit one of them (or both), but both arguably had their best seasons yet. Dowd has an entire episode to herself as well as that stellar fourth outing and Strahovski is just excelling all season long.

I think, although I’m predicting Strahovski, Whitford, Moss and Series, the Handmaids Tale isn’t a LOCK in Drama Series. Had it aired in its normal spring slot then I would have said it is but the truth is this is a mammoth of a year in the Drama categories and part of me feels that Handmaids came too early and that some Emmy voters might not remember it for it to dominate.

FYC BAFTA TV : Killing Eve, Russell Tovey, Years and Years, His Dark Materials, Ruth Wilson
FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer, Ruth Wilson, Helena Bonham Carter, The Crown

You’re probably right, but just for conversation’s sake, the Emmys are too random (unlike the Oscars) for me to confidently think the consensus 7 are the actual 7 (assuming we in the forums consider Strahovksi confidently in the 7). Like even though I’m not predicting it there’s a huge chance we’ll get a random MBB/Gugu/Tessa Thompson/Erivo/Holly Hunter. I guess point being is something’s gotta give, but I have no idea what it is nor do I have any confidence as to who the upset would be, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯. I moved Garner and HBC to 1/2 because they feel safest.

My thoughts on supporting actress contenders (all ranked by likeliness of being nominated):

    LOCKS:
    Helena Bonham Carter
    Thandie Newton

    PRETTY CLOSE TO LOCKED:
    Julia Garner
    Meryl Streep
    Laura Dern

    ON THE BUBBLE:
    Yvonne Strahovski
    Ann Dowd
    Millie Bobby Brown

    COULD BE CONTENDERS:
    Gugu Mbatha-Raw
    Shailene Woodley
    Tessa Thompson
    Holly Hunter
    Cynthia Erivo

    LONG SHOTS:
    Janet McTeer
    Samira Wiley
    Zoë Kravitz
    Susan Kelechi Watson
    Rhea Seehorn
    J. Smith-Cameron
    Uzo Aduba

Fiona Shaw should be somewhere on the list considering she got nominated last year.

Also, despite her snub last year, Seehorn should be listed higher. This is probably her strongest season yet. Yes, her missing out was bad, but I still say that’s not due to her necessarily being a weak contender, but because of the overwhelming love for Game of Thrones. I’d say the same goes for Kelechi Watson, but I don’t know if she has the material or not.

I’d also put Woodley and Thompson lower. I don’t think Big Little Lies will be strong enough to get three women in there, and from what I see it looks like she doesn’t have a chance of getting in over either Dern or Streep. As for Thompson, I’m not expecting Westworld to be that big this year, so two of its women getting in here seems unlikely. It looks like she could have showy season for the first time, but I feel like most fans will just vote for Newton over her.
