I still standby Cersei’s death scene being the best acting that was done the last season.

    Absolutely!

Emmys FYC - "Unbelievable" and "The Handmaid's Tale" in all categories; Viola Davis in Best Drama Actress for the final season of "HTGAWM;" "Ozark:" Drama Series, Laura Linney (Best Actress) and Julia Garner (Best Supporting Actress)

Ozark could be a passion vote that The Crown isn’t, and just that could put it ahead. It’s clearly beloved by directors ever since the first season (it got 2 noms!) and no one predicted it would win last year. Everyone was thinking it was either GoT or Succession/Adam McKay. That’s at least a branch that’s passionate about the show. Now we know actors also love it, as shown by its SAG overperformance for s2 and Julia Garner’s win (she is another case of being a fan favorite). Who is really passionate about The Crown? It’s a blatant “prestige” drama awards bait that served what it was asked to in the first 2 seasons but mostly failed to do so in s3. And yes, it was overrated by critics, the expectations for it were sky high, especially due to Olivia Colman coming off an oscar win and no one wanted to be the critic ranking it lower than the rest (same thing happened with Killing Eve s2 and especially BLL s2 which got an higher metascore for s2 despite being treated like trash by critics weekly).

Game of Thrones. The cast was an over abundance of talented actors in roles that perfectly fit them.

The only performances I really recall as being bad were the three actresses playing the Sand Snakes, but I more blame that on the absolutely abysmal writing. There was truly nothing they could do to elevate the material.

Westworld also has a terrific ensemble, but in my opinion, Game of Thrones’s acting beats in both the quality of the performances, and the number of quality performances.

Does anyone think Linney can win? The two frontrunners are pretty disappointing.

Yeah GoT by far. The Westworld ensemble is great but the only ones that are truly memorable are Newton, Wood in season 1 (so far), Hopkins, and some of the guests, whereas everyone in GoT (guest, regular, etc.) were phenomenal, with the ensemble rising above some truly bad material at times (especially near the end), and everyone had served Emmy-worthy material in some way shape or form.

Does anyone think Linney can win? The two frontrunners are pretty disappointing.

I’ll probably end up predicting her come nominations time and she’ll be Netflix’s pick for the show’s campaign by the looks of it.

To me only Dinklage, Williams and Heady were truly great, the rest was serviceable at best. In Westworld we have Hopkins, Wood, Newton, Harris and Wright those are great!

Let’s not pretend Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington were that great.  Please.

I feel like my thoughts are the reverse. Westworld has a few fantastic performances, but outside of the main people, most of the others are just good, with a few exceptions like Herthum and Mullan.

Well Harington was atrocious and Clarke was servicable at best (except season 8), but the rest of GoT Ensemble is aces.

EDIT: Forgot about Turner, she also was quite mediocre.

Westworld has Hopkins, Newton, Wood, Wright and Harris, but other than that I don’t care as far as acting is concerned.

Harington gets a lot of hate for no reason. He’s perfectly fine. He’s not bad and he’s not great, but that’s mainly because Jon Snow just isn’t that exciting of a character. I never understood people who say he’s outright bad. Jon Snow is the protagonist, we’re supposed to root for him, and Harington makes us do just that. And he looks good doing it.

I would say Allen, Bean, Coster-Waldau, Dance, Dinklage, Dormer, Headey, Rigg, Turner, Van Houten, Williams, and others all served great performances at one point or another. Clarke last season also served up her best performance on the show and still would’ve been a great winner. And Harington in 2016 (and 2015) would’ve also made a better winner than Dinklage did in 2015, 2018, and 2019. But that’s me.

Don’t forget Fairley! Also Gleeson and Christie.
