I don’t understand all those Big Little Lies doubts. It got SAG AND PGA noms, Series, Kidman, Streep and Dern are pretty much safe. It’s also the most watched HBO drama competing, Succession, Watchmen and Westworld ratings don’t come close to BLL’s. Visibility helps and BLL got it. Yes it will likely be a filler nominee pretty much everywhere but it will still get those nominations.

The problem with Big Little Lies is that people seemed pretty meh about the second season, and combine that with it coming out so long ago, the buzz feels greatly diminished.

I’m not denying that. Like I said, it will be filler, but it’s a pretty safe filler at this point. The PGA nom in addition to SAG’s should be enough for it to be just that. The Handmaid’s Tale didn’t get PGA for example.

Why there is so much confidence in Dern? She got snubbed everywhere for BLL 2. Her show is definitely weaker compared to when she won and it’s not like it’s going to be fresh in voters’ mind.

What do you mean she was snubbed everywhere? If you mean at the Globes and SAG – the supporting category at the Globes is drama + comedy + limited series and at SAG there was surely a lot of vote splitting among all the BLL ladies. They did still get an ensemble nomination. At the Emmy’s she’ll obviously only be competing with supporting drama series performances, and I don’t see how she’s not among the top 6 of them.

I have Streep getting in no matter what. Unlike her costars, she showed up EVERYWHERE for BLL 2.

Streep didn’t even show up everywhere. She missed SAG lol.

I have moved Linney into #1 in Best Actress, just for now. I feel like this will end up being a battle between her and Aniston. Last year, the Killing Eve women stole everyone else’s thunder (my assumption is that Oh was probably in second), but I think this might just be Linney’s year. I mean, she’s an absolute Emmy favorite who is giving a big, meaty performance in a show that actors and TV academy as a whole love, which happens to be having its most acclaimed season during a worldwide pandemic and is airing just two months before the eligibility period ends. If voters ultimately choose Colman over all these much more deserving performances (IMO), I will be very disappointed. But they haven’t disappointed in this category for many, many years now. Every single winner from perhaps this past decade (?) gave a win-worthy performance. I mean just look: Segdwick (2010), Margulies (2011), Danes (2012-13), Margulies (2014), Davis (2015), Maslany (2016), Moss (2017), Foy (2018) and Comer (2019). Colman’s performance doesn’t fit that mold.

Emmys FYC - "Unbelievable" and "The Handmaid's Tale" in all categories; Viola Davis in Best Drama Actress for the final season of "HTGAWM;" "Ozark:" Drama Series, Laura Linney (Best Actress) and Julia Garner (Best Supporting Actress)

Lol that’s what I’m saying! Voters can’t watch this season of Ozark and not vote for him, imo. Also episode 9 is just as strong a submission for him too.

I’m a bit lost when it comes to Westworld – it’s always done well with nominations but I’m struggling to find places for it, especially if I’m predicting a series snub. Supporting actress is the toughest category to predict. I suppose there could be 7 nominees which would make things easier, but right now I’m going with a Newton snub for McTeer because voters will probably go big on Ozark.

I had never seen Big Little Lies prior to yesterday so I started binging both it’s seasons. I kinda like it. My favorite characters are Madeline, Ed and Ziggy (lol right?) And Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman are my favorite performers on the show. I just watched the penultimate episode of the second season and it would be criminal to not nominate Nicole Kidman. She’s so amazing in this role and I’m amazed by this whole court fiasco.

The second season, to me, lives up to the first one contrary to the backlash it has received on this site. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I’m binge watching and not waiting a week for a new episode. The only thing not grabbing my attention is Zoe Kravitz’s plot with her mother but I honestly find the show to be consistent.
