Everyone who has seen The Leftovers respects her performance as Patti (though King and Brenneman were better), but the reality is that her THT work just isn’t that amazing.

Because your opinion makes it reality. Of course.

Besides, the user said “her entire existence,” which would include The Leftovers.

Emmys FYC - "Unbelievable" and "The Handmaid's Tale" in all categories; Viola Davis in Best Drama Actress for the final season of "HTGAWM;" "Ozark:" Drama Series, Laura Linney (Best Actress) and Julia Garner (Best Supporting Actress)

Westworld and Wood are probably in the same situation as Ellis Ross and last year. Both shows (along with a Netflix show in both their categories) were probably last at the Emmys in 2018 with weaker competition. I can see Thandie Newton just about getting in à la Anthony Anderson last year as unlike Wood and Ross and like Anderson, the support for her has been bigger than support for the show.

Anderson didn’t have strong individual support-  it was the fact that comedy actor was a total ghost town compared to comedy series and actress so he was able to stick around when his show and costar got knocked out. That’s not the case at all with Newton since supporting actress is so stacked.

I’m curious about this big reaction towards Dowd, both the support and the dissing, as I doubt most of y’all have watched her in anything outside of THT.

I consider Dowd’s work in The Leftovers better than in THT but it’s still pretty great. Although I find Moss, Strahovski and Bledel better than her in the show. Her centric episode in s3 didn’t impress me much, tbh.

The Leftovers, True Detective, Good Behavior, Hereditary, Captain fantastic – I’ve seen all those. Haven’t seen Compliance yet.

Clearly not just my opinion judging by the popularity of that post and the general view on this forum, as you implied yourself by claiming that Dowd doesn’t get respect on this forum.

I interpreted the ‘entire existence’ comment as made in jest.

    For Your Consideration:

And the few people in these forums make it reality? I have to laugh. Yes, I referred to these forums, but only to these forums. Thankfully, outside of them she’s getting the love she deserves (though it took the industry long enough).

By whole existence, I think LaPatrona meant it in the show, which is what I got from that post. It was just an exaggeration to show how much she preferred Newton over Dowd, who eventually won I think. I don’t think she was intentionally trying to drag Dowd completely as an actress. It just came across like that unwittingly.

Has there ever been a show that was shut out completely of all the above the line guilds and precursors yet got nominated for Drama Series? I mean the only two I can think of are Bodyguard and Pose but last year was like a ghost town.

I don’t see how people can say Succession is weaker with actors because of its SAG snub but still predict Wood and Westworld in Drama Series?

FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials"), Russell Tovery ("Years and Years"), Helena Bonham Carter ("The Crown") & The Crown, His Dark Materials, Years and Years, Succession and The Affair in all categories. The Politician : Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler and Judith Light.

FYC Goldderby Awards : MAURA TIERNEY AND DOMINIC WEST FOR THE FINAL SEASON OF THE AFFAIR

There is no reason to be disrespectful towards your fellow Goldderbyte.

You always say the most ironic things lmao.

Some of us are coherent and are saying both.

I am watching Westworld’s “Decoherence,” and the show’s like: give me a damn guest actor nom. People who have seen will know what I mean.

Westworld S2 but technically both that and Pose S1 got a nomination by SAG and WGA respectively, just not in the top one and Bodyguard was ineligible for the equivalent guild of its nomination outside of series ie writing.

I don’t see how people can say Succession is weaker with actors because of its SAG snub but still predict Wood and Westworld in Drama Series?

Because Succession has had three tries at industry recognition for its actors and it has come up short, even when it is sweeping other major categories. Westworld has already been nominated numerous times by the industry so even  if SAG didn’t nominate it last time, it can still be realistically expected to get some nominations looking at its past history at the Emmys. It has 9 total acting nominations for the first two seasons at the Emmys after all.

You made reference to the forums not me. You’re clearly emotionally affected by this so I won’t comment on this topic further.

Both shows did receive non-guild precursor nominations.
