With Sean Hayes out, I think Tituss might finally win this year. Winkler or Tyree Henry could upset, but I’m fairly confident in Burgess.July 13, 2018 at 10:10 am #1202585869
Atlanta, Glover, Brosnahan, Henry, Borstein, Brown, Lynch, Marvelous (writting) and Atlanta (directing)July 13, 2018 at 10:15 am #1202585875
For now, I have
- Mrs. Maisel (RU: Atlanta)
- Rachel Brosnahan (RU: Pamela Adlon)
- Ted Danson (RU: Donald Glover)
- Megan Mullaly (RU: Zazie Beetz)
- Tony Shalhoub (RU: Brian Tyree Henry )
- Pilot – Mrs. Maisel (RU: FUBU)
- Pilot – Mrs. Maisel (RU: Alligator Man)
- Jane Lynch (RU: Tiffany Haddish)
- Sterling K. Brown (RU: Donald Glover)
I haven’t seen some of the nominees yet. My mind can, and will, change once I see them.July 13, 2018 at 11:04 am #1202585939

My hunch right now:
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
THE OSCAR 100 (#40-36): Ellen Burstyn, Katharine Hepburn, Julianne Moore, Ian McKellen and Roy ScheiderJuly 13, 2018 at 12:54 pm #1202586032
Borstein’s visibility with Mrs. Maisel helped her score another nomination for Family Guy, there’s definitely voters behind her and she could surprise. McKinnon has already won twice, Metcalf could turn out to be a threat and I believe Mullally isn’t as weak as one might think.July 13, 2018 at 1:06 pm #1202586049

I’m really torn between Donald Glover and Bill Hader for lead actor. I hope Glover doesn’t repeat because what Hader did in the penultimate episode was just amazing.July 13, 2018 at 2:23 pm #1202586114

I was too but the way I figure whoever wins lead actor is getting guest actor in a comedy. For what it is worth (I have gotten this catagory right every time…..can’t say the same for the others) I am going with Glover and Hader for GuestJuly 13, 2018 at 2:42 pm #1202586123
Lead Actor: Donald Glover
Lead Actress: Rachel Brosnahan
Supporting Actor: Alec Baldwin
Supporting Actress: Alex Borstein
Guest Actor: Katt Williams
Guest Actress: Molly Shannon
Writing- The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Directing- Atlanta (Teddy Perkins)
The only one I’m confident in is Brosnahan, I have no clue what’s going to happen in the rest.July 13, 2018 at 2:51 pm #1202586131
I say we’ll have a Hader Glover splits with guest and lead actor, so whoever wins guest, the other will win lead.July 13, 2018 at 3:10 pm #1202586144
Based purely on Gold Derby’s predictions, biggest snub and biggest surprise nom in each category:
One Day at a Time/SNL #3
So W&G most overestimated, fellow NBC ‘comedy’ SNL most underestimated.July 13, 2018 at 4:26 pm #1202586175
Series: Atlanta (Maisel is a very close second and I’m sure someone could easily convince me to switch)
Actor: Could be Glover, but I’m not sure if it matters that he wasn’t in quite a few episodes this season even if that was by design. Regardless of whether Atlanta wins Series I could also see this going to Danson or Hader.
Supporting Actor: Rooting for Henry or Burgess; the latter can usually pick pretty much any episode and have a great submission while the former was a highlight of Robbin’ Season. Winkler could win because he’s a legend and Shalhoub is possible if Maisel sweeps. As much as I adore Baskets, Anderson probably has next to no chance this time.
Or knowing our luck they’ll just give it to Baldwin again.
Supporting Actress: Borstein feels safe to me here (she’s a veteran and they clearly love the show). McKinnon, Metcalf or Mullally could all take it without being considered an upset. Beetz would be a shocker but she has some great episodes.
Writing: Maisel; I actually thought FUBU and Teddy Perkins should’ve been the Atlanta nominees but the latter wasn’t submitted if I remember correctly. The threat of vote-splitting among Atlanta and Barry writers could help Silicon Valley in theory but I don’t think anyone watches it anymore. My gut says go for a pilot like this category and Directing frequently do.
Directing: How the hell did Big Bang Theory get in here? That alone tells me something is wrong with the nominating process, as people have already discussed elsewhere.
This one is tricky. The last time a show won against itself was way back in 2012. Having said that, it was the incumbent winner in this category and Series. I’ll go with Teddy Perkins and Hiro Murai on sheer buzz/merit for now; maybe it wasn’t submitted in Writing so people would have to vote for it here?
Guest Actor: My gut says Katt Williams, although I like the idea of this category splitting with Lead between Hader and Glover. Brown would be a shocker but deserving.
Guest Actress: I’ll probably end up flipping a coin between Fey and Haddish; Lynch could surprise if Maisel ends up winning Series.July 13, 2018 at 7:13 pm #1202586226

I agree with all of this except for the parts about Metcalf, whose nomination really is her reward, and Mullally whose show under-performed so badly with the Emmys it couldn’t even get a Directing nod over the big bang theory. If we’re talking just the actors branch, Sean Hayes failing to make the cut in Supporting Actor when there was a tie in that category leading to 7 nominees says it all. In Comedy Supporting Actress, the race appears to be between McKinnon, Borstein, and Beetz. Only those 3 out of the 8 nominees can win in my eyes. No way will the Emmys make a TV show merely called “Roseanne” an Emmy-winning show this specific year, regardless of whether or not Roseanne herself will be getting rewarded. Interesting how both Atlanta and Maisel got 4 acting nods with the 1 lead, 2 in each Supporting category, and 1 Guest star getting in.
