Now that Donald Trump is elected. It seems like a possibility that Alec Baldwin will be in over half the episodes this season. The shows ratings have improved this year because of the election and the youtube hits are insane for the Trump sketches so it seems like they are going to have Alec Baldwin on as long as he is willing. We know Trump will always be able to provide fresh material for them.

I thought Alec Baldwin was a lock for a guest nomination, but what if he ends up in over half the episodes? Do you think he will get nominated in the supporting actor category? Does anyone think he can win?

Yes and maybe. Even though they make fun of Trump, I don’t know how Hollywood would feel about voting for Trump to win something.

With Alec Baldwin appearing in 7/8 episodes so far with all the easy material Trump provides is it pretty much a given at this point that he will appear in over half of the episodes this season and be forced into the supporting category?

It’s not a matter of being forced. It’s a matter of rules.

I used to agree with you, but given how the idiotic President-elect keeps tweeting about how much he hates SNL and Baldwin’s impression and how much it bothers him, they might actually do it just to piss him off. Remember, him ‘not winning’ the Emmy was a campaign issue! lol

Imagine his lunatic rant though when Baldwin wins the Emmy. That alone might be enough for Hollywood to vote for him.

And yes, I can’t imagine Baldwin not going supporting as there is no way Trump doesn’t provide them with innovative material every single week.

Do you think Baldwin being nominated Supporting Actor is likely to happen than? Do you think he has a shot to win?

I think he could easily win. I can’t see Louie Anderson lasting long. Even though he would have competition from, Laurence Fioshburne, who I am convinced will get in this year, Ted Danson, Kieth Stanfield, and Bryan Tyree Henrey. I could see any of them taking the trophy.

Yeah, I suspect Baldwin would be the front-runner. Larry David’s problem was his portrayal on Bernie Sanders was a very mild variation on his usual schtick. Baldwin’s performance is a true tour-de-force.

Well it’s too early, but right now he’s my pick to win. Regardless, there’s no question of him getting nominated. He’s a lock for the nod.

I don’t see how he’s a lock. He’s essentially a long-term guest performer – a nomination in the supporting category for something like this would be totally unprecedented. Plus, although his Trump is great and has gotten a lot of attention he only appears in one sketch per episode. If he were eligible in guest, then I’d be more confident.

Yeah even I don’t agree with myself right now. Trump is the gift that keeps on giving

We covered all of this in the “SNL” thread, but again, it would be completely unprecedented for Baldwin to make it in for this (a guest role, not one of a featured player or regular cast member, getting into supporting simply over a numbers/rules game), but that’s exactly why I’m predicting that it happens. Those are the times we’re in. I think the “game plan” all along was only do this character until November b/c, you know why :-/. Baldwin would go the Tina Fey route and win guest with an Election Special, or just host outright and win (oddly he’s never been nodded for “SNL,” and he’s hosted so many times and has done iconic work–we can never forget “Schweddy Balls,” can we?). But this? Playing Trump past the halfway mark is a completely different story. But Baldwin winning would make a great story and “statement” to a voter base that was clearly pro-Hillary (a likely reason Kate McKinnon won this year). The acceptance speech would be amazing as well. I’m all for this happening.
