I have changed to all of Maisel, Barry and Fleabag in comedy series todaySeptember 23, 2019 at 6:00 am #1203097526
Made some panicked last-minute predictions: switched from Chernobyl winning limited series to WTSU, Whishaw to Williams, Williams to Arquette (hadn’t predicted the latter to win supporting), Comer to Clarke to Oh… In the end it was probably my worst ever ranking for the Emmys and the only thing I swept was the extremely easy Variety. But I’m so happy with so many of the winners that I’m fine being Boo Boo the Fool. Ironically these all involved me switching away from my desired winners so obviously in the future I should be more selfish and pedantic.
I SHOULD HAVE changed Deadwood to Bandersnatch at the last minute, as I had been considering. My best Emmys ranking ever came from backing my pet Black Mirror when nobody else was, and it had at least won something at the Creative Arts Emmys where Deadwood had flopped, but Deadwood’s bigger set of nominations and Bandersnatch’s mixed reception gave me pause. So sometimes you SHOULD listen to your gut, it’ll just never be the right time.September 23, 2019 at 6:04 am #1203097530
Y’all convinced me to remove Ben Whishaw for MKW.
I’m glad I switched Black Mirror and Deadwood last week.September 23, 2019 at 6:08 am #1203097534
All of my last minute changes ended up being wrong and had I not done any last minute changes I would have had about 5 more correct guesses..September 23, 2019 at 6:22 am #1203097556This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.September 23, 2019 at 6:22 am #1203097560
Honestly I just need to not read anything on GD before the ceremony and just lock my computer/phone away. I wouldn’t have done amazing (would have never predicted Ozark for directing, my baby Succession for writing, PWB winning over JLD), but I can’t believe I bought into the administrative denial that Chernobyl didn’t have the power to win Series. It was far from a lock with WTSU having a healthy chance but Chernobyl was undeniably a massive hit with critics and audiences alike and it dominating the Creative Arts Emmys was no fluke. And then there’s always a really persuasive user making me think twice. FLOP.September 23, 2019 at 10:47 am #1203098185
Switched Phoebe for Julia on Sunday afternoon. :-/// Thanks, GD.

I switched Veep for Fleabag in Comedy Series and Comedy Writing with an hour to spare, so yes!September 23, 2019 at 10:28 pm #1203099146
Apologies because I just posted in the gloating thread and that pompous attitude is now spilling over here, but all of my post-Creative Arts switches paid off (Fleabag, Harry Bradbeer, Craig Mazin), except for comedy supporting actress, which I was getting wrong either way. I try to take our website’s namesake to heart—I try to acknowledge the derby instead of being stubborn. If my instincts turn out to be right from the get-go, great, but if the wind is blowing a different way, I want to heed it. I am continually annoyed by pundits who settle on a prediction at the start of the season and never waver. It happens much more at the Oscars, but it happened at the Emmys this year like I have perhaps never seen before with Veep. It made a lot of sense as a prediction until nominations, then it made even less sense after the Creative Arts. It would have been nice if I had the foresight to predict Fleabag, but I did not. I never saw it coming before nominations. I even resisted it all the way until the Creative Arts, but I would have rather have been right about my Barry theory since that was kind of my own. With the Creative Arts, the jig was up. Time to move on. Better to admit that you are wrong before your predictions score does.
Having said that, these were changes that I made in direct response to the Creative Arts, which is different from just changing things at the last minute because you are feeling reckless or panicked or whatever, like I was feeling tempted to switch from Michelle Williams to Patricia Arquette and I am so relieved that I did not.September 23, 2019 at 11:05 pm #1203099187
