I’m working on an article about people who have won Emmys for recreating a Tony winning performance.

So far I have Robert Morse, Tru, Jessica Tandy, Foxfire, Jeffrey Wright, Angels in America and George Hearn and Penny Fuller for recreating another actor’s Tony winning role.

Anyone have any more memories of people nominated or winning Emmys for Broadway tapings or adaptations?

I found a couple of others:

Ed Flanders won a Tony and Emmy for A Moon for the Misbegotten

Boyd Gaines won a Tony and Tom Hulce won an Emmy for The Heidi Chronicles

Nell Carter won a Tony and Emmy for Ain’t Misbehavin’

Fredric March won a Tony in 1957 for Long Day’s Journey in to Night. Laurence Olivier won an Emmy in the same role in 1973.

Walter Matthau won Best Actor at the Tonys for playing Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple in 1965. Jack Klugman won Emmys for playing Madison in the long running television adaptation in 1971 and 1973.

Mary Martin won an Emmy in 1955 for recreating her 1955 Tony winning role as Peter Pan.

Arthur Kennedy won the first Tony Award for Featured Actor in a Play for the role of Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman. John Malkovich won an Emmy for the same role in 1986.

Paul Muni was named Best Actor at the 1956 Tonys for Inherit the Wind while Jason Robards won an Emmy for playing the same role, Henry Drummond in 1988.

Ryan Murphy should make this a TV movie with the same cast. Or a 4 hours limited series or something, I really want to see it and it would probably be an awards magnet.
