The torture porn criticism (which it always had, but seems even more present this time) particularly makes me question its chances considering people are definitely looking for lighter programs nowadays.

The huge backlash that ‘THEM’ had and it’s still having will only make this louder IMO.

    For Your Emmy Consideration:
Matthew Rhys for "Perry Mason" | Ethan Hawke for "The Good Lord Bird", THE GOOD LORD BIRD in ALL CATEGORIES | Elizabeth Olsen and Kathryn Hahn for "Wandavision" | Tobias Menzies for "The Crown" | MJ Rodriguez for "Pose" | Jane Levy for "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist"

The Handmaid’s Tale is the new Homeland. Once a show of the moment that sweeps due to having one of the most critically acclaimed first seasons of the century and due to its tie-in with current social events. But then it falls due to its inability to sustain its acclaim in the long-run, the dragging out of its story and general fatigue. It will keep its nominations from last year due to the open field but it’s certainly not getting back into either writing or directing and neither Strahovski or Dowd are getting back in. Next year probably only Whitford will get nominated à la Patinkin.

FYC Emmys: "The Crown" in all categories, "I May Destroy You" in all categories, "It's a Sin" in all categories, "Small Axe" in all categories, Billie Piper ("I Hate Suzie"), Yvonne Strahovski ("Stateless") and Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials")

^^ That’s actually the perfect comparison.

Emmys FYC | Alan Tudyk in “Resident Alien” | Jennifer C. Holmes in “This Is Us” | Ego Nwodim in “Saturday Night Live” | Kaley Cuoco in “Harley Quinn” | “Dickinson” | “P-Valley” | “Pose” | “Superstore”

I’m not ready to start dropping everyone with this competition though and the release date has to help in some ways.

To be honest, the acusations of The Handmaid’s Tale being dangerously close to becoming torture porn have been around since Season 2.

FYC Emmys: Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist: Comedy Series, Comedy Actress (Jane Levy); Cobra Kai: Comedy Series; Dickinson: Comedy Actress (Hailee Steinfeld); The Good Doctor: Drama Actor (Freddie Highmore), Drama Supporting Actress (Paige Spara); His Dark Materials: Drama Supporting Actress (Ruth Wilson); Lovecraft Country: Drama Supporting Actress (Jamie Chung); WandaVision: Limited Series, Actress (Elizabeth Olsen), Actor (Paul Bettany), Supporting Actress (Kathryn Hahn).

Watched the Shadow and Bone pilot and Wow. I was so much more invested than I was with The Witcher and His Dark Materials. Probably because I was more familiar with the source material of those two shows, but Shadow and Bone is much more inventive (visually and in its storytelling) and charming. The VFX and production design are also amazing.

This show has the writer from Arrival, so it’s really not that surprising.

I don’t know if this will translate to any nominations, though. Probably just in the creative categories.

    You don’t need to
I’m keeping it in series + whitford + one supporting actress at the bare minimum.

It’s getting some very bad reviews but it’s getting some good ones too, and we all know the show is a hit and will continue to be i guess.

I just don’t know if I’ll keep Moss.

    For Your Emmy Consideration:

I’m still keeping Moss in because of the emptiness of the field and partly as a hope-dict because whilst the quality of The Handmaid’s Tale has been dwindling, I think she’s been excellent throughout (she gives one of my my current favourite performances on television).

I hope though that if Moss does not return that it’s because the actors branch have nominated an inspired passion pick like Piper or Rodriguez but if Moss doesn’t get nominated it sadly probably means Phoebe Dynevor has been instead…

The cooler inspired passion pick (Zendaya) made it over Moss (and Davis, and Kidman) last year, I have some confidence in it happening again this year.

I’M SORRY IF THIS SOUNDS RUDE BUT WHO IS SHE?

    BILLIE PIPER

The cooler inspired passion pick (Zendaya) made it over Moss (and Davis, and Kidman) last year, I have some confidence in it happening again this year.

Zendaya’s show was an audience hit though and performed strongly at BAFTA and TCA. I do think Piper can happen because she seems to have strong industry buzz (although I think I Hate Suzie is likelier to land a Writing nomination if anything although I’m not even confident in that if HBO Max aren’t even promoting the show hard for the Emmys in spite of their push for SAG). However I don’t think Piper and Zendaya are comparable.

That being said if Piper lands a BAFTA nomination and the show makes new series at TCA then I will predict her.

I am keeping MJ Rodriguez in regardless of whether it’s wrong or not. I just have a gut feeling she could pull a Mandy Moore.

I’m on the Jurnee Smollett hype train.

Lovecraft has AFI + SAG Ensemble and WGA. It’s TOP 4 and HBO has had a nominee in this category for 4 years in a row. She’s the fan favorite of the show, cool lines and two of the most talked scenes of the show (Leti breaking the cars and at Tulsa). I wish the show was about her instead of Jonathan Majors lame character.
