I’m gonna say real quick that outside of the comedy nominations being much more exciting and deserved across the board, I’m happy this forum topic hasn’t been plagued with trolls like the Drama ones.  Much better discussion surrounding a slew of deserving nominees.

Also, the comparison to Skyler from Breaking Bad is interesting because Anna Gunn won two Emmys for portraying an “unlikable” female role

It took her a while to be nominated and win though, and let’s be honest, Goldberg is great but that performance isn’t in the same league as Anna Gunn in season 5 of Breaking Bad.

Usually the comedy categories are easy to predict, but this year is so dang competitive!!!

Glow got a decrease in the number of nominations, while Fleabag and Barry both got an increase. I don’t think the love for Glow is still THAT strong but they obviously still watch the show, because Betty Gilpin isn’t a big enough name in the industry to just be a name checker. She reminds me of Tituss Burgess as that she’s great in the role but they don’t want to give her the award. I don’t think Hinkle is big enough to split with Alex Borstein but I also think Borstein gave a better performance in Season 1. I think the race here…and I’m being subjective, is between Borstein, Goldberg, and Clifford. People are iffy on predicting Sarah Goldberg for the Emmy based on the likability of her character but she still got in for a nomination which is saying something. Also, the comparison to Skyler from Breaking Bad is interesting because Anna Gunn won two Emmys for portraying an “unlikable” female role. And, as someone said in a previous post, it’s obvious the Academy actually watched and enjoyed Fleabag and Clifford’s performance and Colman’s performance was simply weaker this season. Finally, poor Anna Chlumsky. She’s been a frontrunner before when they gave it to Kate Mckinnon in 2016. I just think she’s in the same position as Gilpin.

But the fact the Goldberg could get nominated into such a competitive category in just her second year is saying something. Also, her character was much more likable in the second season of Barry.

I just entered my first predictions:

Series: Barry ( I know this goes against everything I’ve stated previously but I don’t think I’ve been good enough to deserve a Maisel repeat lol)

    Actress: Julia Louis-Dreyfus – Veep

    Actor: Bill Hader – Barry

Supporting Actress: Alex Borstein – The Marvelous Mrs Maisel

Supporting Actor: Tony Shalhoub – The Marvelous Mrs Maisel

    Writing: Episode 1 – Fleabag

    Directing: Ronny/Lily – Barry

I see Goldberg as a threat possibly. There could be vote splitting between Colman and Clifford and Borstein and Hinkle (if the pairs are liked fairly the same).

Borstein is much more liked than Hinkle and actors love the Marvelous Mrs Maisel. She’s repeating.

That is what I have been thinking but who knows. I was just listening to a podcast where they were discussing noms in this category and everyone on the podcast was raving about Marin Hinkle. Who knows, but I prefer Borstein and I also think she will repeat, but also I like Goldberg and she might be a dark horse contender.

Yeah you might be right. I want to predict an upset somewhere and Goldberg might be it since Actor, Actress and Supporting Actor are basically all locks.

I have a feeling across all categories there might be a few upsets.

I’m glad you started watching Barry and liked it by the way! It’s a great show and super addicting once you get past episode 3 🙂 I also liked Season 2 even more.

If likability is a factor then Kate McKinnon is winning I guess.

Cause neither of the Mrs. Maisel actresses is likable, nor the Fleabag actresses. Not Sarah Goldberg in Barry, not Betty Gilpin in GLOW, and definitely not Anna Chlumsky in Veep.

    How is Susie not likable?
