TGP is just too smart for the Emmy voters to get.

To clarify, I believe the bias towards The Good Place is insidious. That’s my bad for not elaborating on that. The comedy series nomination was a crumb tossed its way, to them, a filler nominee. If it wasn’t filler, they’d have been nominated for a lot more than a mere 5 awards.

When you’re voting based on personal preference, isn’t it all bias?

Big fan of Better Call Saul, Sex Education, Barry, BoJack Horseman, and, especially, Survivor

Yeah I don’t really get this talk about Fleabag being super sexual.

The first line of the series is about having a wide asshole…

Two of my favorite Veep lines are “eating so much pussy I’m shitting clits” and “it’s like using a croissant as a dildo….it doesn’t get the job done and makes a huge fucking mess”.

I don’t think Fleabag is winning series but the argument that it’s too raunchy to do so is pretty weak.

If your predicted Drama Series winner has an incestous relationship as its central romance then you should evaluate your argument one more time. Fleabag talks about arseholes one time and suddenly it’s too risqué for the academy.

The thing is that, unlike Veep, the very first scene of Fleabag is about anal sex so conservative voters could just watch the first 3 minutes and then turn it off.
I don’t believe it’ll cost it the win but it’s a pretty solid argument.

And that would not even be among the top 5 supposedly off-putting elements of GoT for conservative voters, being the type of genre show that it is.

Frankly, it might be a better argument to suggest Fleabag is too female-centric to win Series award, which I would not agree but still. I would classify something like Veep as more of a female-led than female-centric.

My gut is telling me that I really do think Barry is being underestimated here. It over-performed last year when barely anyone knew what the show was yet. Now everyone’s seen it. It is a lot darker and that is a great argument but Bill Hader is so beloved within the industry I would say even more so than Glover so this might be more than just an Atlanta x 2 situation. Fleabag started catching on but Bill was out promoting so much more this year for Barry. He even went out with all the GOT people. He was on literally every talk show imaginable this year. Barry will still get a lot of the votes.

Umm, not saying there’s no sex but it’s not overdoing it to the point it’s going to turn off all the older voters.

I think it’s Veep vs Maisel tbh

Veep used to occupy three slots in directing, I don’t know how it can win this time.

I would not phrase it that way, but I agree with you on the front that being a highly serialized fantasy-comedy on a network television was as big of a hurdle that a show could ever face in this TV landscape. But its Series nomination proves that a sizeable portion of the voters binge-watched the whole thing from the start(since that’s the only way they’d “get” it) and liked it. Don’t treat that like it’s nothing. It is part of a very elite club of shows that manage to get noticed later in their run now.

    Good God almighty, no.

You are becoming one of the most annoying posters on this site. I usually do not say anything negative about others, but all you do is put down shows that are not The Good Place.
