Fleabag getting some visibility this week:

PWB on the cover of Hollywood Reporter

Colman on the cover of Entertainment Weekly for The Crown but with a mention of her Emmy nomination. Don’t think Netflix intends for Amazon to add to their awards count tho lol

Fleabag is sweeping. Their campaigning is comparable to Harvey Weinstein.

Woah, bold Riley. Is there a reason you are predicting Barry for writing and not Fleabag?

Phoebe Waller-Bridge for Hollywood Reporter. This is the queen of the campaign trail… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdbTa21AEzU

    2. Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series

Yeah this confuses me too. Between the more writerly-nature of Fleabag 2.1 compared to Ronny/Lilly and Phoebe’s rising star as a tv writer I can’t imagine how she loses this to anything except maybe Veep.

The writers do not always care if something is more writerly:
    – “You want a good girl, but you need the bad pussy” over the Mad Men finale and The Americans‘ best season
    – “Battle of the Bastards” over the Mr. Robot pilot

The writers also do not always go for the auteur voice:
    Veep over Louie
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel over Atlanta

Each of the above saw the writers merely rubber-stamp the series winner and if I have Barry upsetting in series, it follows that it can upset in writing too, especially with so many of the nominees being the same across the two races. The writers only sometimes award Black Mirror types, so this might be one of those cases or it might not. Barry is also no slouch in the writing field. Its first season was double-nominated for writing and it is coming off of two Writers Guild wins, including one by popular vote in a combined drama field.

Episodic is kind of irrelevant, I mean Homeland won on the drama side. And as for new series, it’s obviously the strongest nominee and was helped by being the only comedy. I think Fleabag is much more well positioned for a win than Succession or Pose was at WGA. If Barry had actually won comedy series I might take it more seriously for the emmy.

JLD talking about her bout with cancer in another publication read by Emmy voters in the days before voting starts. Don’t worry if you missed it. She tweeted it out to her followers as she did her Vanity Fair one.

If she felt she was a lock this year I doubt we would be seeing this.

The way tv writers have been gushing over Fleabag the past 3 months though…for it to lose Writing would be a major upset and an indication early in the ceremony that the winner that beat it wins Series.

(It’s as close to a lock you can get in writing)

I like your pair of brass balls going with PWB over JLD. I switched too. If I see another article with JLD talking about her cancer I may have to switch back though.

Not to unleash GUEST on me, I watched Maya’s episode and Jesus The Good Place is a WEIRD show. Wouldn’t mind Maya being an Emmy winner though. It was giving off Kimmy Schmidt/Blackish place holder vibes to me all over the place.

Definitely not a show to just pop in on midway through the third season.

Big fan of Better Call Saul, Sex Education, Barry, BoJack Horseman, and, especially, Survivor
