So nobody is gonna expose the fact that Olivia Colman got in for a nothing performance ?

This was just post-Oscar name check!

So. Much. THIS. Just like Michael Douglas.

Also, the nominations are somewhat telling, but its not like Veep swept the ceremony last time it won. Rather it went away with only series and actress with Atlanta taking actor/directing and Master of None taking writing. It definitely cannot be totally counted out of the series race. I almost think the amount of ripe alternatives helps it because no one show will hog all the votes. Think GOT’s victory last year.

Idk. Editing+Directing snubs are huge, especially when it has been getting multiple noms in the past in those categories. It also lost an acting nominee (though that was kinda expected) and craft noms. On top of this, four of its competitors just got about everything. It is fourth at best in series and that makes me so sad. Snubbing David Mandel is the worst thing the Emmys did this year.

GoT had the year’s most nominations (including multiple acting nods, writing, directing, acting, editing). Veep has a total of 9 nods, last time it won it had 17 nods, that’s 8 nods down.

GoT had two directing nods. Veep has ZERO.

GoT had three editing nods. Veep has ZERO.

Last year, GoT was not in its final season. Veep is now and I don’t think the sentiment is there.

Even though Barry and TMMM have more nominations, I’m going with Fleabag for Best comedy series. There is so much passion for it that it’s almost too much to ignore, imo. And PWB would be a lock for best actress without JLD.

Does TGP have 2 leads and one was snubbed? Poor Michael Douglas

I think the only thing that bothers me about this year’s comedy nominations is the fact that there’s virtually no diversity. Drama and Limited did alright (they could definitely do better, seeing as how Limited’s only POC nominees except for Mahershala came from WTSU), but Comedy had four all-white categories out of six. After having at least two people of color nominated in EVERY comedy category last year. It’s really hard, because I LOVE this year’s lineup, and I think that they’re all really amazing. I don’t mean to bash on them, because they all deserve the nods they got, but it’s just a bummer to see how the Emmys have taken such a huge step back in diversity.

Predicted winners (could wins in parentheses):

SERIES: Fleabag (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
DIRECTING: Barry (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
    WRITING: Fleabag (Barry)
    ACTRESS: Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Phoebe Waller-Bridge)
    ACTOR: Ted Danson (Bill Hader)
SUPP ACTRESS: Anna Chlumsky (Alex Borstein)
SUPP ACTOR: Tony Shalhoub (Alan Arkin)
GUEST ACTRESS: Maya Rudolph (Kristin Scott Thomas)
GUEST ACTOR: John Mulaney (Luke Kirby)

I don’t get this diversity, in some categories, it just so happens that the best performances were from white people so just because a person is black why should they get a nod over a better performed white?

FYC Emmys 2019 ‘Killing Eve’ ‘Sandra Oh’ ‘Fiona Shaw’ ‘Bob Odenkirk ‘Jonathan Banks’ ‘Fleabag’ ‘Phoebe Waller Bridge ‘Olivia Colman’ ‘Ted Danson’ ‘Alan Arkin’ ‘Kristin Scott Thomas’

Am I the only one who thinks it’s a little bit imposible for Fleabag to win over Veep and The Marvelous…?

Fleabag is a female-powered show which Maisel and Veep also are. Fleabag can totally win and has a very good chance. It is the buzziest show besides Barry, and PWB is everywhere right now.

I think you might’ve been right in your previous post. This might just be Fleabag vs. Barry.

Mhhhhh there seem to be a bit of bias against Maisel here. It has 20 nominations and it swept the guild including WGA, PGA and every comedy categories at SAG. The Academy doesn’t vote for the winners for almost 2 months. The Fleabag and Barry buzz will have died down. Maisel is still very much in this race.

I love TMMM but it just seems like Barry and Fleabag are the hot shows right now and I don’t see that changing much between now and the end of voting. I wouldn’t get too caught up in its nomination total. It’s such a craft heavy show, it makes sense that it would be nominated in those categories but just because a production designer, for example, votes for its art direction doesn’t mean they’re voting for it as best comedy series.

There is no way that 6-8 white people gave the “best” performances in Comedy Lead Actress, Comedy Supporting Actor, Comedy Supporting Actress, and Comedy Guest Actor. The lack of diversity is unsettling.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus does NOT need another Emmy nomination, yet alone another win. No Issa Rae.

Titus Burgess snubbed in Comedy Supporting Actor.

Out of 8 slots, Jenifer Lewis couldn’t get into Comedy Supporting Actress.

Both Barry and Fleabag got into Series, Acting, Writing and Directing… I’m officially convinced that this is where the comedy battle is.
