My Current Predictions
Actor: Bill Hader, Barry
Actress: Julia LouisDreyfus, Veep
Supporting Actor: Tony Shalhoub, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Supporting Actress: Sarah Goldberg, Barry
Writing: Fleabag, Episode 1
Directing: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, We’re Going to the Catskills!July 18, 2019 at 4:20 pm #1202983975
Anyone thinking Maisel is winning for directing is delusional. Ronny/Lily has that in the bag.July 18, 2019 at 4:31 pm #1202983996
With Hader presumably winning actor, do you think the Emmys would double down and give him a directing win as well?July 18, 2019 at 8:18 pm #1202984253
Barry reminds me of Atlanta. They’ll shower it with noms but it’s simply too dark and dramatic to win series. I’m starting to think Fleabag might actually take it.
Oh and I can definitely see Maisel winning directing since they can’t vote for it in writing.

I agree that Barry seems like a runner-up at best. Like Atlanta, they like it for what it is and love to nominate it all over the place for its artistry but they would prefer a more traditional comedy to award in series.
I feel the same way about Fleabag, which I don’t buy winning at all. It is a buzzy offbeat auteur show, like Barry, but it is not the kind of thing that the Emmys feel comfortable rewarding as there is no precedent for it, not to mention it’s a British import, and is six episodes long, etc.
Therefore, I think the race is between Veep and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which are both past series winner and far more traditional Comedy Series awardees. I give the edge to Maisel because it overperformed in nominations, has below the line support, and will not split the “cool” alternative to Veep vote, which Barry, Fleabag, and to an extent Russian Doll are all classified as.
“We’re Going to the Catskills!” would be a slam dunk, simply because it references the Catskills arc, if it were directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino. Voters who watched The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 back in December need that episode title to jog their memory but I’m afraid it will split votes with Amy Sherman-Palladino’s episodes simply because it’s her.July 18, 2019 at 8:45 pm #1202984301

No; I don’t want blink and you miss it TV honored under ANY circumstances. Emmys can’t be seriously thinking giving its comedy series trophy to a show of such brevity. GoT; they were shoehorned into 6 episodes. That’s one thing. It’s quite the other when a show VOLUNTEERS to be so brief.
There’s only an hour and a half difference in run time between Fleabag Season 2 and TGP season 3. The arc for every main character in Fleabag is complete and written with depth. I’m baffled how screen time can be held against the show when it develops story arcs fuller than 99% of other shows.July 18, 2019 at 10:08 pm #1202984409

It can either go the Atlanta route or the Breaking Bad route. I strongly think that it is the latter.
