Toni Collette has the most acclaimed performance of the year, more so than Colman. Colman was runner-up

In what world was Colman the runner-up lmfao? Colman won three of the four major critics awards, losing only the NYFCC. Her film was a bigger contender than Colette’s but that wouldn’t have necessarily been an issue with the critics organisations, evident by their rejection of Aparicio despite Roma sweeping these awards.

The following list includes only the awards given out by critics.

    Olivia Colman (20+2) –  AFCA, AFCC, AWFJ, COFCA, DFCS, DFWFCA, GALECA, IFCA, IPA, KCFCC, LAFCA, LFCC, MCFCA, NCFCA, NSFC, OAFFC, SEFCA, TFCA, VFCS, WFCC;

CFCA, UFCA awarded her in supporting

Toni Collette (12) – BOFCA, CFCA, DFCS, GFCA, HFCS, LAOFCS, NFCS, NTFCA, OFCS, SFCS, StLFCA, VFCS

Coleman will never be able to top that Oscar speech. I think it came from the shear shock of her winning. She probably was not really that rehearsed since I’m sure she didn’t think she’d win.

That is one thing that all these precursor awards have ruined for the Oscars. People are so practiced by the time they get up there. But Coleman was pretty great off the cuff. Funny, thankful but still managed to pay tribute to Close in a really classy way.

I keep wondering if Catherine O’Hara stands a chance as Best Comedy Actress. I’ve never even seen the show but she is so admired. People so often speak of how SCTV inspired them to get into comedy. I wonder if the others all vote split if she could sneak in.

I once read Neil Simon called this SCTV sketch the best ever written for TV and showed it in a class he spoke at. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF2jdTQyyyE

I’m currently watching Schitts Creek and wouldn’t mind if it surprised somewhere. The best place would be for Eugene Levy in lead actor. O’Hara is great but I’d rather Waller Bridge or Applegate Win tbh

FYC Emmys 2019 ‘Killing Eve’ ‘Sandra Oh’ ‘Fiona Shaw’ ‘Bob Odenkirk ‘Jonathan Banks’ ‘Fleabag’ ‘Phoebe Waller Bridge ‘Olivia Colman’ ‘Ted Danson’ ‘Alan Arkin’ ‘Kristin Scott Thomas’

FYC OSCARS 2020- ‘Little Women’ ‘Saoirse Ronan’ ‘Maggie Smith’ ‘Downton Abbey’ ‘Emma Thompson ‘Late Night’

I don’t get the Eugene Levy love, he’s fine but unlike Catherine O’Hara he’s not really doing anything special.

I’m not gonna lie: I’d love to see some surprises like O Hara or Applegate winning. Also I must say that I don’t think Natasha’s performance is on the same level of the rest of the contenders.

I hope Schitt’s Creek wins costumes. Moira’s wardrobe is always amazing

Contemporary costumes would be the best way to award Schitts Creek, no other show really stand out (except KE which was snubbed)

What do people think about the comedy stunts category? GLOW is obviously the frontrunner, but I’m wondering if Barry has a chance because of ronny/lily.

I think Natasha Lyonne’s performance is unfairly dismissed because it is lived in and close to her public persona but that has nothing to do with incredible acting. The idea of transformation = great performance is quite annoying. Natasha does incredible work bringing her character and the show is hinged in her nailing that character which she fully does, regardless of whether or not it’s too close to a Natasha for you 🤷‍♀️

I think Phoebe Waller-Bridge is fantastic, and in most other years, she’d be able to win best actress easily. Unfortunately for her, Julia Louis-Dreyfus has proved unstoppable six other times, and looks ready to continue her streak. The overpowering love for the character of Selina Meyer and JLD’s towering performance has beaten many deserving actresses before, and it’ll very likely do it again. If this were just another year of Veep, Waller-Bridge might’ve stood more of a chance. But this is the last season, and that’s gonna score JLD more than a few farewell votes. She’ll also get her fair share of sympathy votes for beating cancer (like a badass) and many votes for her comedic tour de force. This last season of Veep wasn’t perfect, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus was, and I believe the voting will reflect that.

Nobodies been talking about Veep. It lost major nominations (directing/editing). There’s been no real buzz about this show and I wouldn’t be suprised if it went home empty handed. I know JLD has won last 6 times but Fleabag has the most buzz out of any nominated show this year, I think Fleabag will sweep in pretty much all categories it’s nominated for.

Waller-Bridge is definitely winning for writing, but I just can’t fathom JLD not winning for her final year. There’s so much love for her. The show doesn’t have as much hype as it used to, but her performance was amazing as ever

I am sticking with GLOW because it beat dramas at SAG.
