loved the clips. PWB or JLD are really winning. Loved her performance on the show, but Christina’s clip is the weakest

This is definitely JLD’s hardest year to win… I’m curious to see what happens. Phoebe Waller-Bridge would have taken this is a cakewalk if JLD wasn’t in the race. These two are neck and neck. JLD does have the best tape, but good god PWB was amazing during this campaign race. She’s been everywhere and many academy members have seen her live performance of Fleabag in London and/or New York.

I think some people’s rankings here are really interesting.

JLD’s clip is clearly the best and Applegate’s is the worst, yes think we’re all pretty much agreed on that. But I think it’s really strange that people have Waller-Bridge and Lyonne ranked so highly based on these when neither is showing off any kind of range (even if the former’s is very funny).

O’Hara, who I passionately maintained chose the wrong tape, is second purely on the basis that what she does with that crow voice is something none of the rest of these actors would even dare to think of. She then beautifully downplays the interaction with the director, creating an instant contrast which is brilliantly effective in further enhancing the voice she just did.

Brosnahan is close behind her and I’d argue if we take the funny out of the equation she’s giving a better performance than everyone as her thought process is so clear and so precise and is matched by neatly complementary gesture and facial work that physicalises the internal fight between her stand-up self and her true self in this moment.

You can’t appreciate Rachel’s performance based on a single clip because she really portrays two characters, Midge in her day to day life and Midge when she performs. It’s really phenomenal how she seamlessly transitions from one to the other. This clip is the closest she gets to mixing both these sides of Midge but she’s still performing in front on an “audience”.

I agree. I don’t watch Maisel so i really think that had a factor on me disliking Rachel’s clip the most. Since i don’t know the context of the performance it was really hard for me to connect with Her. But at the same time i find it a little bit weird because i also don’t watch Veep and yet just by that clip i would be thrilled to see JLD winning. And i’m someone who is praying really hard for Phoebe. But judging by that clip JLD was just PERFECT!!! At the end of the day this clips don’t matter. If you guys say that Rachel is amazing in Maisel i trust you. I also have watched some clips of the show and she’s really good.It seems her character and performance are way too complex to be judge by a one minute clip.

yeah, I’ll have to agree. We definitely can’t judge their works based on these clips. Rachel Brosnahan is pure perfection on Mrs Maisel and so is Christina Applegate on Dead To Me

JLD has had arguably more press coverage and campaign with the multiple magazine covers, tv appearances and social media though. Didn’t really think PWB did more than the usual arranged for hot new talents.

But I would agree that PWB is definitely the popular kid everybody wants to be friends with right now – in the last few days alone: Charlize Theron, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Richard Madden have all gone to her play.

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched that JLD’s clip scene since May 12th. She is AMAZING in this. Brosnahan is good, but the clip is very bad. If we were to judge for it, she wouldn’t deserve even the nomination.  PWB’s clip is the S2 trailer … I liked the O’Hara clip. The Applegate clip is bad, but she is good is that series.

Can someone explain this clip thing to me? Are the Emmys no longer doing episode submissions for the acting nominees? Just clips from an episode?

Bill Hader flew to London to see PWB in Fleabag this week. He is a massive Fleabag fan and has talked it up so much. I’d love to see them work together.

Bill Hader mentioned in an interview recently that he wants to focus more on dialogue for Season 3 of Barry and said that Fleabag was a good inspiration for dialogue. He also said that he starts writing Season 3 next week so he probably got some extra inspiration by seeing the show. A lot of writers do that.

Julia is just on a league of her own. Rachel Brosnahan is also incredible and so is Waller- Bridge.

The Creative Arts did not decisively favour Barry, Fleabag or The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

    The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
    1. …beat Fleabag for Guest Actress with the help of vote-splitting
    2. …beat only random shows for Cinematography
    3. …beat only random shows for Costumes
    4. …beat only random shows for Guest Actor
    5. …beat only random shows for Hairstyling
    6. …beat only random shows for Music Supervision

    Fleabag
    1. …beat Barry & The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for Casting
    2. …beat Barry & The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for Editing with the help of vote-splitting

    Barry
    1. …beat only random shows for Sound Editing
    2. …beat only random shows for Sound Mixing

The only times that Barry and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel went head to head, Fleabag won.

    The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
    1. …lost to Fleabag for Casting
    2. …lost to Fleabag for Editing with the help of vote-splitting
    3. …lost to a drama for Makeup
    4. …lost to a drama for Sound Mixing
    5. …lost to a limited series for Production Design

    Fleabag
    1. …lost to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for Guest Actress with the help of vote-splitting
    2. …lost to Russian Doll for Cinematography

    Barry
    1. …lost to Fleabag for Casting
    2. …lost to Fleabag for Editing with the help of vote-splitting
    3. …lost to GLOW for Stunts
    4. …lost to Russian Doll for Production Design
    5. …lost to a drama for Score

Barry and Fleabag each lost to Russian Doll once and beat it twice. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel beat Russian Doll once and never lost to it.
