I think there is a possibility for Mrs Maisel to go the Handmaid’s Tale route this year.

Last year THT came with S2 having maximum no. of nominations (behind GoT) and won a few creative Emmy’s but got completely snubbed at the main event after having a resounding sweep for it’s first season. I can see the same happening with Mrs Maisel. It will be everyone’s second choice, not the first even though it did garner maximum no. of nominations.

Really, not everyone does know who PWB is. Fleabag isn’t THAT popular.

When the chiefs in Amazon (Jennifer Salke), FX (John Landgraf) and Netflix (Reed freakin Hastings) all bring you up unprompted as an example of content they want to invest in, you are absolutely the hottest talent in the industry.

Landgraf mentioned PWB three times during his TCA event and said if he could sign her on a deal he would do it immediately. Hastings says the show he regretted losing the bid to most was Fleabag. Salke basically offered PWB an open checkbook to do another season of the show.

Very interesting, thanks. Again, I didn’t mean with media types and investors, I meant popular, like with people. She as an individual is no JLD, Hader, Bornstein, Colman, Oh, Levy, any GoTer or even Applegate.

And to reiterate, I really like Fleabag and have watched it twice. I just think it’s very niche. PWB is obviously enormously talented and has a huge future.

    Just my opinion…

The Academy doesn’t like despicable caracteres.  Jason Alexander never won an Emmy playing perfectly one of the most iconic characters in TV history (George Constanza, Seinfeld).  It took 4 years for VEEP win comedy series, even with that FASTASTIC S3.  Julia won 6x playing Selina?  Well it’s JLD.  Nobody does what she does. Many of you agreed watching those actresses clips.

But let’s take Fleabag.  S1 was very good.  And then we found out (spoiler) what the main character did to her best friend … Fleabag don’t  get one single nomination (nor industry attention, i think).  S2: PWB, very cleverly (in a good way), makes us almost forget how terrible her character is … 11 nominations !!!

I’m not saying that S2 isn’t very, very good.  What I mean is that in 2015, 2016 and 2017 the academy managed to put likability aside (Atlanta should have won in 2018).  If VEEP finale had Amy giving birth in a hospital with all the characters and Selina asking for forgiveness and hugging everyone, VEEP would have won about 20 nominations.  But no, VEEP was acidic until the end, and that was brave and well, well done, in my opinion.

No one watched Fleabag s1 when it came out, it’s not because the character is “unlikeable” that it got 0 nominations.

I don’t think unlikable characters is a reason why people don’t win when actors playing psychopathic murderers have won before.

In comedy? If you are talking about Bill Harder, i only saw the pilot of Barry and found him likable.  But 1 episode is not enough to say …

What I think is that Fleabag got so much attention from the industry and academy because of 1. great writing, actors and execution and 2. because of that cool, sexy, not perfect but very, very likable character. I don’t like likable characters very much myself, but the PWB character got me.

    But again, just my opinion.

Hader was likable on Barry. He did some bad stuff but you sympathized with him.

Yeah, I have to agree with this.

With Phoebe, it was a bit of domino effect. Fleabag s.1 put her on the map in the US, but it was still very small show in terms of recognizability in the industry. Then KE happened and that show moved her name in the rankings to another level. The timing for second season of Fleabag was simply perfect. She nailed it.

Ever since the writing snub I’m feeling that. Or like Stranger Things in 2017. Sad.

For the longest time I’ve felt that Maisel will win its 2nd Comedy Series Emmy, but I’m changing my prediction last minute to Fleabag. It gives me “Arrested Development vibes.”

Idk why most people are predicting Veep. It was so bad and I think voters acknowledged that with its lower nomination count. Plus no voter would vote for it just because it’s the final season when they can give the series it’s going away present in the form of another win for Julia. But we’ll see soon enough I guess!

I think Maisel is winning supporting actor, and that’s it. However, it’s also my alternate in series and supporting actress.

Final reminder that Colman is losing the Emmy.
