I have to agree that Laura Linney’s tape is pretty great…but Ozark doesn’t have much support from the Academy. They recognize the show but don’t seem to want to award it. I know someone mentioned this before but I’m also curious as to where the love for Killing Eve’s script came from? I’m having trouble predicting it for writing even though it’s first in the odds just because I don’t think it’s the best script.

Hoping that they choose these clips for the ceremony: But because they’re actually great clips, it means that they’re not going to choose any of them.

Oh you and i wish, but no way. It’s network TV, so all scenes with cursing won’t be used – unless they bleep it out or so. Let’s just hope they even use clips

They definitely have the best clips but submission wise i still think Jodie is much better than Emilia (I haven’t seen Viola). The problem with Jodie here is the moment they chose from the submission. Her monologue is absolutely fantastic.

Viola would win over Jodie in a cakewalk if this were based on submissions.

MY GOODNESS, I told you all that Viola was the real deal in that episode!! They chose the proper clip! Clips:

    1. Viola Davis (my God, I love her)
    2. Mandy Moore (I forgot that she had a scene this great in her episode)
    3. Laura Linney
    4. Sandra Oh (this was GREAT)
    5. Jodie Comer (who was fantastic in both)
    6. Emilia Clarke (wrong scene; I hated this one)
    7. Robin Wright

Emmys FYC - "Unbelievable" and "The Handmaid's Tale" in all categories; Viola Davis in Best Drama Actress for the final season of "HTGAWM;" "Ozark:" Drama Series, Laura Linney (Best Actress) and Julia Garner (Best Supporting Actress)

if we only watch the submissions -clips the winner without any doubt should be Viola Davis, also because it’s the most emotional . However  if we watch all the episodes I think it’s should be Jodie Comer with Viola Davis very close second. But i don’t think they will win

I’m bumping Viola Davis up under Sandra Oh after seeing that submission. Wow, what a queen. BTW how AMAZING was Billy Porter’s submission? Mind blown.

Wow, are you really watching all submissions? Isn’t Viola freakin’ phenomenal? I mean, I knew this would he her submission ever since I saw the ep in January, but I didn’t remember her being this great.

She was fantastic. I was pretty blown away by her tape. She’s always great but WOW. I am watching all of the submissions haha I haven’t seen all of the shows so I want to get a bit of an idea without going with just what I’ve seen. I’m just starting to watch WTSU and it’s amazing.

Emilia, Viola, and Mandy have the best clips. No idea what the others were thinking.

I’m home sick – can someone give me a couple of full episodes that they think are just jaw-drop performances and aren’t necessarily representative of YouTubing a few clips? Is Viola’s that good? I have watched all the submission clips

(Please don’t suggest GoT, Ozark, Killing Eve, Pose as I’ve definitely watched all of those, plus some others)

The only two full episodes I’ve watched in real time where I’ve just walked away in a state of astoundment were Billy Porter’s (I mean his clip is good, but the entire episode literally made me change my submission on the spot and I think made me a lifelong fan) and Gwendoline Christie’s (which made me bawl and I think is the best GoT submission by a mile, but the clip on the reel isn’t her very best moment)

You can watch any random episode of HTGAWM and Viola would do the same thing as she does in this clip: yelling and crying. That’s why I don’t consider her clip oustanding or anything. We know she can do that, since it’s all she does in that show and already has an Emmy for that.

I can’t say I’ve really watched since S2 – so there’s nothing significant about that submission episode?

My thoughts on the clips (and also why we shouldn’t judge on clips)

    1. Voters aren’t

    2. Out of context

    3. A minute only doesn’t give you the best grasp on things

However for the point of the exercise

Emilia: It’s over-wrought and there’s better work in that ep. Do they need to include dialogue? Skip to about 0.30-0.40 in this clip (the first part is just irrelevant Dinklage drinking games) and watch her wordless reactions to the goings on – I always thought that was so fantastic when I watched that – you really got the sense of a profound jealousy

Robin Wright: I don’t like this clip at all. I like Robin on House of Cards though.

Viola Davis: Fantastic. Emotional, but appropriately so.

Jodie Comer: I LIKE this clip. Sorry guys. I like the accent schtick. It is, however, funnier in context and there are better clips for Jodie, so yeah, as a submission it’s weak.

Sandra Oh: The cut of this clip doesn’t favour Sandra and it does make Jodie look better but in context of the episode I feel like it’s a power moment for Sandra

Laura Linney: I really like this and I liked it in the episode too.

Mandy Moore: This is a lovely little emotional moment and I like her general sub. I think she is the darkest of dark horses

I guess you don’t watch HTGAWM then, because she’s done everything on that show. And sometimes her material is pretty OTT, but that’s not her fault.

I stand corrected then. I still disagree though because she has episodes where she’s also incredibly subtle – “Wes” is a prime example. But okay, I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree then.

Another point proven last night is how weak all the nominated Drama series not named GoT are, not a single win (except for the Succession Theme Music) in technical categories and none were capable of beating Thrones anywhere. Thrones was beat by Black Mirror, Chernobyl, Star Trek and Mrs Maisel and also the un-nominate series The Handmaid’s Tales but not by Succession (who should have won Drama Casting in a landslide), This Is Us, Ozark, Killing Eve, Better Call Saul or Pose…. I don;t think those shows are winning anything next sunday.

This would have been true if everyone was able to vote, but luckily is not the case, every guild is different. Also, like you said, The Handmaid’s Tale beat Thrones in Guest, so it can beat it in Writing or Directing as well. The cinematographers, the actors and the hairstylists showed once again their dislike toward Thrones, there is zero sentimentality coming from them. I really do not see the writers showing any sentiment either. Directors want to reward Thrones, but I am not sure that they will be able to do it. I keep thinking that it will win only Drama, but I am afraid to switch Dinklage.

but I also think “The Iron Throne” is amazing

This is an adjective that I thought I would never seen as description for the writing of that episode…
