I don’t think GOT has writing on lock. To me, that is a four-way race between GOT,KE,BCS, and Succession. BCS and KE have always had great writer support, and Succession was the only new series to show up in WGA drama. Looking to last year, the Americans got last minute buzz, but it’s not like it had the popularity or stature of GOT, Stranger Things, THT, etc. yet it pulled out the win. Point is, I don’t think the writers branch is lazy, I can see this going a few ways.
On the other hand, I think Clarke is winning. I may end up eating my words here but I don’t see how Oh or Comer could possibly win. Last year the performance vs. the name vote split was a pattern that was usually pretty merciless (see Versace in supporting races, Atlanta directing, TIU in lead actor, THT in s. actress). With those two out of the way, Clarke is obviously the most popular, and her performance was pretty damn showy. I would cry tears of joy if the more deserving and actually overdue Wright were the actual beneficiary of the KE vote split, but as of now my money’s on Clarke pretty easily.
July 21, 2019 at 5:48 pm #1202988943- Game of Thrones
- Emilia Clarke
- Billy Porter
- Maisie Williams
- Peter Dinklage
- Adam McKay
- Jed Mercurio
- Jessica Lange
- Michael McKean
Subject to change obviously.
July 21, 2019 at 5:55 pm #1202988946I think Bateman would win over Porter. Bateman has been a favorite of the TV ACADEMY (he is also been nominated for Outstanding Directing twice now), and now that Matthew Rhys is out of the race, he is the awards favorite.
July 21, 2019 at 6:02 pm #1202988951No one asked for this but because I’m bored and procrastinating on studying, I’m going throw out who I hope wins (not that it hasn’t been established a hundred times on here already).
Lead Actress Emilia Clarke, Game of Thrones, Jodie Comer, Killing Eve, Robin Wright, House of CardsLead Actor Honestly couldn’t care
Supporting Actress Lena Headey, Game of Thrones
Supporting Actor Alfie Allen, Game of Thrones
Guest Actress Carice van Houten, Game of ThronesGuest Actor Same as lead actor

July 21, 2019 at 7:15 pm #1202989061There was no vote split last year in Supporting Actor, Guest Drama Actor and Actress, and numerous other categories in this new system (IE. Dinkalage over Nikolai, Sterling over Milo, Dowd over Samira, Samira over Jones and Jenrette, Ron Cephas Jones over Gerald Mcraney and when McRaney beat his costars.
You could easily say the anti Sandra Oh vote could vote split between Comer, Clarke, Wright, and Linney.
People are just talking out of their ass at this point in regards to Lead Actress.

July 21, 2019 at 7:22 pm #1202989079I agree, Oh has this in the bag, but Clarke could be a dark horse.
July 21, 2019 at 9:59 pm #1202989218Lange won the SAG award for Drama Actress, which combines both Leading and Supporting players, not the SAG for Actress in a Limited Series.
So she literally won against any, ANY female performance that year. I, myself, hadn’t realized that until now actually. Wow that was quite something. Her performance was literally the definition of iconic. So yes, I think she’s winning Guest Actress in a landslide.
Eh, Constance Langdon was Lange’s most iconic role in the show for sure. But that SAG win was more like a “Welcome to TV” win in line to Viola Davis’ two wins there. If winning one(or two) makes the character unbeatable in future races how did Annalise Keating lose last year in this category for Scandal? It’s not like AHS has much more support than HGAWM at this point.

I wish, lol!
Saddly, I don’t think it’ll happen, but no other win would make me more happy.July 21, 2019 at 10:42 pm #1202989246Unpopular Prediction: Jodie Comer will win
Right now I’m predicting her. I’m pretty sure she’s ahead of Oh at least.

July 21, 2019 at 11:49 pm #1202989255I just finish Killing Eve and this show is amazing! I should have watch it before! That being said, I don’t see the appeal with Sandra Oh’s performance… she’s good but not outstanding. Jodie Comer is SO much better. I understand now why she won the BAFTA. I’m rooting for her or Emilia Clarke.

You and me both, Tyler. You and me both.

Anyways, I hope This Is Us wins a big one in the main telecast. Go Milo!

I am really glad that This is Us did better this year after getting snubbed last year. Unfortunately, I think it won’t win anything major except for Guest Actress for Rashad. I want it to win Series but Thrones is the clear winner.
