I know she got a surprise SAG nom but we all know they have a Netflix bias. Plus, the other contenders were all ineligible. This is a genuine question.
Not a lot. Just the GOT vote split and the fact that she’s built up some recognition from her appearances in several prestige shows over the last year or two. And the fact that (taking away sentiment for Headey) she has the strongest performance in the category. But Shaw could just as easily capitalise.
For Your Consideration:
Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)August 2, 2019 at 10:15 am #1203007258So i’ve been watching Ozark and just completed the first season. It’s fine… I guess. It can be pretty uneven at times but it’s mostly quite entertaining. I feel like the hate it gets here is kind of exaggerated. The critics don’t find it compelling as well as evidenced by it’s lukewarm critical reception for both of it’s seasons… because yes… it actually isn’t anything groundbreaking but still a fun watch, nonetheless.
I went in with very little expectations but found Jason Bateman to be fine in this role. He’s good actually and should be nominated but his competition is better. Julia Garner and Laura Linney were wonderful as well but the majority of the cast is lacking. This cast did not deserve a SAG Ensemble nomination over Westworld this year.

None of the actual nominees did.

Come on, I know you don’t like THT, but that cast is pretty darn amazing. Right?
Oscar FYC - Lupita Nyong'o & Elisabeth Moss ("Us") - Best Actress & Supporting Actress. It must happen; otherwise the Tethered are coming.

I didn’t mean they were undeserving of a nom. They both have great ensembles but I prefer Westworld. Maybe because I enjoy the show more? THT was certainly the best amongst the nominees by a mile though. Despite my issues with the show I’ve always been a fan of the cast, especially Moss, Strahovski and the vastly underappreciated Madeline Brewer. It’s a crime that Moss is still waiting for an individual SAG award and she lost to Oh’s bland performance this year. Anyone in their right mind would know who deserved to win.
August 2, 2019 at 11:10 am #1203007312Both casts have their weaknesses (THT – the men, Westworld – Quarterman, arguably Marsden though his material is one note). They’re both definitely among the best on TV.

August 2, 2019 at 2:45 pm #1203007615Thanks for the answers! Another question: how crazy is it to predict GOT to go 7/7 in the main ceremony?
Banned for making a fake movie poster
August 2, 2019 at 2:51 pm #1203007621I do not think that there is a scenario in which Kit Harington wins. It could go 6/7. 5/7 is the safest bet because Sandra Oh losing is probably overthinking it. I of course have 2/7 because I am eyeing last place.

But he simply can’t win – just no. That’d be called blind voting because there is no way he’s better than, well, everyone in that category.

August 2, 2019 at 3:13 pm #1203007654I can’t believe how much praise Yvonne garnered last year and now no one is talking about her.

Well, she was outstanding in the first five eps, but she hasn’t had anything to do since (well, except for this last week). But anyway, this is the wrong thread for this discussion.
