Guess what, true fans dedicated many years of their lives to this show. So no wonder they were disappointed, because S8 was an insult to the show itself. Hating/criticizing/disliking a season doesn’t make you less of a fan than anyone who blindly loves it.

Criticism of the show is fine  but I’ve  seen a lot of hatred thrown toward certain members of the cast and crew that is completely unwarranted. The Stark actors in particular. r/Freefolk’s disdain for Sophie Turner is bordering on unhinged.

Even Alfie Allen has criticized  “fans” for harassing the actors social media pages.  The current GOT fanbase has nearly the same toxicity as Stars Wars after The Last Jedi. I don’t think any tv show warrants some of the hate GOT has gotten especially since it’s been on an obvious and steady decline since season 5.

Oh I 100% agree. I don’t think anyone deserves such hatred, it’s ridiculous. It’s “just” TV after all!

Especially since Last Christmas looks awesome and Emilia Clarke looks like a GG nominee in it???  What a dumb meme.

People harassing the actors obviously don’t understand what made the last season bad. The actors did everything they could with the shitty material they got from D&D. Didn’t Kit even say he felt he let everyone down? It’s not you honey, it’s not you.

Outside of Emmy discussion can I just say: Gwendoline Christie’s capacity to deal with fans and the media so well after doing both The Last Jedi and the Game of Thrones finale in the space of a year and a half is seriously A+. She could be forgiven for just not wanting to deal.

I have no idea what Sophie disks to freefolk except for not be Emília Clarke, to be honest. They are a concerning breed. What started as funny memes turned entirely toxic

To be fair, she had one of the best character conclusions in Game of Thrones. So while Rian Johnson did her dirty, D&D did not. Daenerys on the other hand…

Superfans already have difficulty separating the characters from the actors so her  minor complaint about the season 8 petition was the only thing they needed as justification for hating her as much as they hate Sansa.

I don’t think Maisie would have the support, and the same goes for Julia Garner. On the other hand, if we look back to 2016, Lena definitely vote splitted with someone and that someone couldn’t have just been Emilia, resulting to her loss. She was undeniable, I mean GGs and CCs nominated her for the first (and only) time for the season. It was her most critically acclaimed. But I don’t think Smith’s win was that wtf. Smith kept getting snubbed and then nominated the next season so there doesn’t seem to have been consistent support, but for her final season she was still in a beloved series (series, directing and writing nominee) playing a fan favorite receiving a farewell gift. I think Headey’s main threat is Gwen, but if almost all of them vote for GoT actresses vote splitting won’t be an issue, though indeed Headey has to come first, and for that to happen, the majority of voters must share the same sentiment of rewarding her for her collective work, which wouldn’t be impossible to happen if you consider all the GoT actors submitted (except Asbæck? lol) got nominated despite some of them being not nod worthy.

    Dormer nominated too.

I struggle with the “rewarding Headey specifically for her body of work”, not because I don’t think she isn’t excellent, but because I don’t see any prevailing evidence that in an ensemble cast with several actresses this necessarily is correct. I keep thinking of Oh and Hendricks in recent times. Smith had won a previous Emmy. You can make the exact same argument re the rest of the cast being rewarded for their body of work.

I think for Headey to be the absolute favourite of the GoT crew she needs to be seen as the standout performance AND deserving of a lifetime achievement and that’s what I struggle with. I would be shocked if Turner gave any serious competition but Maisie and Gwen should not be underestimated.

There was a point where I considered Williams as the possible winner due to her character’s storyline and popularity. But I feel like she won’t have the support due to her young age. I think Gwen is the spoiler here or simply GoT frontrunner, but Shaw’s double nods make me think she takes this, although both of her noms feel coattail, not to her name but to each respective show she’s on, unlike Dowd who won on a THT sweep and her guest actress nod was coattail to her name.

I have the same thinking. But shouldn’t Garner then be the prediction? Because unlike her other five co-nominees, she has the performance, the SAG nod, doesn’t have to contend with vote-splitting, and her show is in Drama Series.

The ONLY thing I can see against her is her age, but then again in this category half of the women are younger than 25 so it probably doesn’t matter much. Also, this new system doesn’t seem that adverse to rewarding young actors.

People are either forgetting or discounting that Garner’s SAG nomination came in a category of 5 with mixed lead and supporting performances. That is one of the clearest signs of industry support you can get. She is a contender for sure.

We will look really dumb if she wins and we didn’t predict her when the signs were right there.

It’s between her, Shaw and Headey. If you’re predicting Headey, you need to be predicting a near sweep for GOT (Dinklage, possibly Clarke, Van Houten, writing/directing) because that’s the only scenario where she wins.

The inherent problem with this category is it is almost a field of coattails. Every nominee is in a nominated show with multiple other nominees. There’s no Viola Davis not a Billy Porter here.
