It’d be a shame if the two actual best nominees in limited series leave empty handed at the main ceremony.

When They See Us: 1. Outstanding Limited Series 2. Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series or Movie 3. Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series or Movie 4. Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie 5. Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie 6. Outstanding Casting for a Limited Series or Movie Fosse/Verdon: 1. Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie 2. Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming 3. Outstanding Hairstyling for a Limited Series or Movie 4. Outstanding Makeup for a Limited Series or Movie Chernobyl: 1. Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited Series or Movie 2. Outstanding Picture Editing for a Limited Series or Movie 3. Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited Series or Movie 4. Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Limited Series or Movie Black Mirror: 1. Outstanding Movie 2. Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media 3. Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Programming Sharp Objects: 1. Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Good Omens: 1. Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series or Movie Catch-22: 1. Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role

I agree with some of this but i also disagree with some. I find hard to believe that Chernobyl will be shut out of the main categories.  It will win, at least, Writing or Directing. I also think it will win Makeup. Fosse/Verdon was very good in this department but Chernobyl was HUGELY SUPERIOR. Michael K. Williams is someone i don’t see winning. He has competition from three fellow actors and Asante Blackk is also receiving a considerable amount of support. For me is either Whishaw or Dano. Arquette should win supporting (i hope she does), and since she’s basically losing lead it would be very sad to see her not getting anything considering the great year she had. Movie, i think, will go to Deadwood.

Hollywood Reporter’s Feinberg Forecast has Chernobyl in 3rd place after WTSU and Dannemora. He has it losing every category.

Am I on another planet? Did I watch a different series than the journos? Did I imagine the record ratings and IMDB.COM #1? I had co workers talking about Chernobyl and that usually only happens for breakthrough pop culture films/tv (BO Rhap, GOT, Stranger Things, etc).

The more conspiracy part of my mind tells me this is orchestrated. I keep going back to how GDERBY odd’s for Chernobyl were still so awful even when it was a confirmed breakthrough critical and commercial success. While at the same time making it sound like WTSU was a slam dunk winner even before it aired. Look we know Ava is protected and nurtured by them. They even took it easy on her for A Wrinkle in Time. They are heavily invested in her.

Whatever. If WTSU wins so be it. I still find the treatment of Chernobyl by the talking heads, journos, pundits to be no pun intended…a catastrophe.

You’re too invested in the odds. They’re meant to be a guide – not taken too literally. Chernobyl is still in with a great chance to take series, directing and writing (no acting though).

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

Well forget the odds than. Why is the Hollywood Reporter placing it in 3rd place after Dannemora? How is that even possible?

Admit it, the treatment of Chernobyl is just weird. Any project with it’s reviews and ratings and subject matter would be on it’s way to sweeping. Major pundits have it being skunked and in 3rd place despite winning PROGRAM OF THE YEAR from TCA.

    It’s weird. It just is.

    Feinberg’s predictions are pretty garbage

Agreed. But that still doesn’t explain putting a critical/commercial smash that just won Program of the Year behind a show with fading buzz in 3rd place.

That’s something more than just being bad at predicting.

Chernobyl didn’t win program of the year, Fleabag did.

The ‘something more’ is having personal preferences. I haven’t heard the podcast but I’m presuming he likes Dannemora and is over-predicting it or something. Again, Chernobyl’s support below the line and its general popularity give it a high chance of winning major awards so don’t worry.

Yeah Chernobyl didn’t win Program of the Year

But it beat WTSU to win Limited Series. So it’s odd that pundits (some of whom are critics) are predicting that it’s losing in all major categories except writing when they and/or their colleagues voted for it at the TCAs.

Still think Chernobyl takes the big one. Lead actor is 50-50. Directing between Ava and Stiller although I think Renck deserves it for consistently incredible work across the entire series and Chernobyl is technically levels above the rest without sacrificing the emotional and human aspects of the story.

Darlings, Thatcher is seeing Chernobyl winning, so that’s what is going to happen.

Chernobyl is favoured to win writing and it ranks second in the odds for series, directing and lead actor. So how is it being undervalued? Sure, I also hear everyday people talking about it, like I did with Bohemian Rhapsody and Stranger Things as you mention. But neither of those won the top prize, so who cares? It has also been bumped from the top spot on IMDb for what that is worth. It is not even that weird that Chernobyl is being predicted for writing over anything else, seeing as the writers agree with the critics more than any other branch/guild.

As for pundits being slow on the take to Chernobyl because Ava DuVernay is a media darling, Chernobyl entered the Gold Derby top five on June 3, which was before When They See Us first entered on June 7. So it is unfair to say that When They See Us was crowned in advance, as that was not the case at all. When They See Us actually bumped Chernobyl when it entered, then June 10 was the first time that they were both in the top five. When the predictions centre closed because nominations were being announced, When They See Us had ascended to third, but Chernobyl had ascended to second, as it had retaken the lead over its ultimate chief rival. The conspiracy is a figment of your imagination.

When They See Us is ahead now because it got a massive eight acting nominations. If anyone is allowed to speak on this, it is me because I saw Chernobyl coming before anyone else. Like I said, it was first predicted for a nomination overall on June 3, but I added it to my predictions on February 22 when the predictions centre opened. Then I declared on April 3 in our first slugfest of the season that it would win Outstanding Limited Series. And even I have jumped ship to When They See Us.

Darlings, I know literally nobody who watches Fosse/Verdon. Fatty Arquette or Sharpy Adams are winning.

I wouldn’t consider the TCA an indicator of who will win the Emmy. Critics and Emmy voters are two different groups of people.

I know there’s passion for both leading contenders, but I have a feeling there is slightly more for When They See Us, given the Actor love (when some arguably didn’t deserve noms). I do see Chernobyl winning more Emmys though and potentially surprising in a couple categories (possibly taking home Directing and Supporting Actor, amongst others).
