I know the answer to this, but I wonder how When They See Us would be received around here if it didn’t have majority black talent behind the scenes.

    You’re fucking ridiculous

how openly rooting the major pundits are for When They See Us.

They love kissing Ava’s ass, pretty much the whole film Twitter does.

I don’t care about who is winning between WTSU and Chernobyl because the best limited series of the year wasn’t even nominated. Yes, I’m talking about The Haunting Of Hill House.

This is toxic. I haven’t seen When They See Us or Chernobyl so I can’t speak to which is better, but has anyone considered that part of the reason black people are still having such a hard time in Hollywood is because people resent being crucified for not unconditionally embracing anything they produce?

No one benefits from not judging art on a level playing field, no matter the skin color of the people behind it.

White people feeling pressured to like black artists work just bc of their blackness shouldn’t be another hurdle for black artists.

Please tell me how not worshipping When They See Us makes me racist.

Then why are you telling white people on here that they need to like everything created by and starring black people? You cry racism every time someone says something even remotely critical of when they see us. At this point you’re just trolling.

    Please.

I am on record as having HATED Ozark and Sharp Objects and their casts are white toast. The sight of Meryl Streep makes me want to jump out a window these days. Shows with primarily white talent are trashed and criticized routinely around here. I am also on record advocating for wins for Billy Porter, Jharrel Jerome, Phylicia Rashad, and Angela Bassett this year. Not to mention I stick up for Sandra Oh who gets dissed all the time and would make history with a win.

Apparently if you are sad at where Chernobyl seems to be heading Emmy night (goose egged) and point out how emotionally invested some people are in WTSU victory (ya’ll listen to Amanda and Erik yet?) you are racist or something. Pretty pathetic.

In my posts I have never said you must like (insert) or you’re a racist. Your racist mind already went to that place and I can’t help the way you think (okay, that was me being petty lol). What I have said and what will always be my point is that if you say (insert) is nominated/won for bc of anything other than the quality of their content or performance, that’s racist bc qualifiers are never applied to white content and performances.

Idk if that’s true. It applies to anything that’s politically relevant. I think with what’s going on in the world, more often than not that ends up being stories about POC. Plus POC are still often pigeonholed into those kinds of stories so that doesn’t help. But it’s not just shows about poc. The Handmaid’s Tale was helped because of politics. Icarus for best documentary. It’s ignorant to think the political relevance of a show doesn’t factor into its awards chances.

See, a reasonable response! And I’m not pretending that there isn’t an element of bullshit at play in addition to the work. There’s a way to talk about these things w/o coming across as a racist mess and I have not seen that here. It’s not too late though, but I’m not holding my breath.

So, pointing out THT won over ST because of politics and pointing out how wrong Kate McKinnon and Alec Baldwin’s wins are going to be deemed racist from now on I guess?

Neflix campaign for WTSU is massive. No way will it underperform come Emmy night.

Chernobyl and WTSU will likely win awards. Maybe not the ones you want, but both will prevail somewhere.

    Agreed with this 100%

White people win for mediocre performances ALL THE TIME, but I never see them getting crucified to the degree that people of colour (The hate for Sandra Oh this year immediately comes to mind) get crucified here by the same users (and we all know who they are, let’s be honest).

And the infuriating part is, WTSU is not even mediocre by any yardstick – it’s one of the best shows of the year, brilliantly written, directed, AND acted, has a Metascore of 87, Rotten Tomatoes rating of 97%, and an IMDB rating of 9. But it’s being treated here in this thread by some people like it was Bohemian Rhapsody, and I can’t help but wonder if it got the same treatment, despite its quality and critical acclaim if it wasn’t for its cast and crew being predominantly black.

I mean Sandra Oh is arguably the most overdue nominee this year, owing to her work on Grey’s Anatomy. And Lena Headey is also equally overdue owing to her great work on GOT. However, the same users who are advocating for Headey to win DESPITE her barely having anything to do in Season 8 largely because she is so overdue for a win are CRUCIFYING Oh because she will win largely because of being overdue and not necessarily her performance. They are hypocrites and they don’t apply the same standards to POC as they do to their favorite white actresses like Headey.
