Beyoncé is def winning 1 or 2 of these awards. She’ll be halfway to her EGOT.

If you’re talking about the Beyonce special (and, by TV, you mean the main broadcast), then, based on the Academy’s past history, the answer appears to be, “None of them will be.” Keep in mind that the two nights of the Creative Arts ceremony will be edited into a two-hour broadcast on FXX on 9/21.

It’s also possible that they might decide to move the Variety Special Writing and/or Directing categories to the main broadcast, in part because Beyonce is nominated. We probably won’t know this until September. (Normally, Variety Special Writing & Directing are part of the main ceremony in even-numbered years, and Variety Series Writing & Directing are in odd-numbered years.)

The last time she was nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, they moved it to the main broadcast. She just happened to not show up.

I’m sure they’ll do the same this year.

I just realized that Delta Work did not get nominated for Hairstyling for RuPaul’s Drag Race and that Raven was nominated for Outstanding Make-Up as well for RuPaul’s Drag Race. Mmmmmm

Aparently Delta was fired after winning last year and is not currently working on the show .. go to her insta to get the deets

After the fuckery of broken promises that the Oscars kept pulling last year with their back and forth public decisions about new categories and cutting categories, they need to walk home with 0 Emmys.

hopefully someone else wins the variety special directing cuz they had no direction

They did not move it because of her and That Don Guy knows better than to suggest that they will do it this year. It rotates every year whether we get Variety Special Writing and Directing or Variety Series Writing and Directing in the main telecast. We got the Special categories last year, so we will get the Series categories this year. Go back on Wikipedia and check through the years if you do not believe me.

    Riley, how did you know?

She had a lot of buzz among everyday people. We are sometimes too close here that we overemphasize big names who do not actually have a shot (and the reverse).

Do you guys think James Corden will end up having more Emmys than Jon Stewart?

Er, I suggested that they “could” do it, not “will” – and I stopped guessing what the Academy was going to do with categories when they moved Choreography to the main broadcast one year.

“Our Planet” getting 10 nominations, three for cinematography, is amazing. It features some of the best cinematography I saw on TV this year. I can’t find a picture, but that wide shot of the polar bear walking through the snow, OMG.

Emmy voters must bend the knee to Lena Headey & Emilia Clarke for "Game of Thrones." It's their last chance to award them. Make it happen.

Direction seems to me to have to do with overseeing music that is performed in the actual program as opposed to being recorded separately (composition) or selected from existing works (supervision).

“Our Planet” getting 10 nominations, three for cinematography, is amazing.

It is tied with Planet Earth II for most nominations ever in a single year for a nonfiction program.

What exactly is the Music Direction category?

    From the Emmy Rules:
“Music direction involves arranging and orchestrating, composition, supervision of rehearsals and recordings and conducting both live and pre-recorded material. It is the responsibility of the music director to bring the program into a unified whole by making or supervising the following: composing, transitions, themes or underscore, arranging original or pre-existing material for the given orchestra or band, rehearsing the performers and overseeing music that needs to be pre-recorded. In many cases, the music director will also assist in the post-production mixing of the music for the show.

    This category excludes from eligibility:
    • Music Supervisors
    • The conductor of a concert or symphonic program being telecast
    • The conductor of a program which is eligible to be, or is entered in, either of the dramatic underscore categories
    • The composer who conducts their own dramatic underscore for a program which is eligible to be, or is entered in, either of the dramatic underscore categories
However, the composer of a musical (a program substantially comprised of songs) who is also its musical director may enter in either a music composition category or in music direction but may not enter in both categories.”

I am not sure if this was discussed anywhere as I didn’t see it, but Jonathan Banks lost one of his Emmy nominations and replaced by Ryan O’Connell for Special:

I adored Special so very happy for his nomination. I really hope Jessica Hecht wins the Emmy, she was amazing in the show.
