Enjoyed the premiere well enough but didn’t get a clear sense of where the actual plot is heading. Definitely worth a second look, though. I don’t see this as an awards contender, really. Maybe some Globes love but I’d be hesitant to predict even that.

This was engaging throughout. I will definitely watch the rest of the season. Otis Milburn would do great in this show.

The pilot was a little slow in pacing, so I am hoping the rest of the episodes pick up a bit.

I don’t see this getting much love outside of a possible Globes nod for Zendaya, but still, her performance isn’t undeniable.

Something about this show felt a little off to me. I’m not sure if its the bleak tone of the show or that all of the characters felt too similar to me. With all the topics they are trying to tackle, I fear this could divulge into Gossip Girl territory real quick, albeit a very dark/edgy Gossip Girl.

I watched this with my roommate and he said halfway through the episode that he would finish it out but wasn’t watching the rest of the season. I, on the other hand, only needed to get through the first seventeen minutes before deciding I was in for the rest of the season.

I think that’s the story of the show. You’re either out on it or all in. I realized early on that there was no need to try and figure out every detail of what was going on, because the show was not interested in that. By the end of the first episode, there are some plotlines being set up for the season, but not a ton. What the episode succeeded with was setting the tone and the pace for the season. You cannot mistake what this show is after the first hour. The cinematography and direction were amazing, and the writing was at least different. I’d rather watch something like this that is trying to be something off the beaten path than a retread of the same old thing.

I have a hard time thinking this show is going to be an awards contender anywhere. I’m seeing it more as a popular watercooler show for the demographic being depicted onscreen and maybe people in their mid to late 20s. All in all, I was energized to discuss the show with anyone else who watched, and that’s just as good for HBO’s sake of having a show people want to talk about, even if it means no awards success. Regardless, I’m in for the season and I really cannot wait to see where this goes.

I mean, these kids. Are parents that fucking clueless in the US? Lol

Visually, I found it refreshing. I need to see what Zendaya does with the character.

I think Zendaya will pull a Katherine Langford at the Golden Globes and maybe a couple of “Contemporary” categories at the Emmys and that will probably be all.

Vile pilot. Not watching a minute more of it.

I’m guessing you must not understand what it is truly like to be young in 2019?

This is the definitive version of what it’s like to be “young in 2019”? Stop. Not even close. It’s a shitty pilot. That’s as far as I need to “understand” its poor world-building and inane plotting. Next.

Only minorities can actually relate to this show.

I’m not sure if I understand what you meant there.

This thinly veiled racism. As if white kids don’t sleep around and do drugs.

And even if you were right (which you aren’t), God forbid “minorities” have a show they can relate to when almost everything else is designed specifically for white audiences.

I believe that with minorities he meant a percentage of teenagers, not what you thought.
