Music supervision, contemporary costumes, maybe cinematography and contemporary production design … all seem viable to me.July 4, 2019 at 1:46 pm #1202962459
I agree that Episode 3 was the strongest so far. I liked episode 1, hated episode 2, and loved episode 3. go figure.
Zendaya continues to impress… this is a real showcase for (I see why she took on the role!). 3 episodes in and I could see her taking a Lead Actress in a Drama Series nomination both at the Globes and at the Emmys (depending on competition). Her pleading for drugs scene was heartbreaking to watch.
This series reminds me of Larry Clark’s films (Kids, Bully, etc). Dark, explicit teen dramas… definitely not everyone’s cup of tea!
I’m definitely hooked and will continue to watch.July 8, 2019 at 12:46 am #1202965511
The fair episode was definitely ambitious, I’m also wondering if the visuals and over the top directing are starting to be too much. Also, is Nate gay or was everything just to protect his dad? I think he still has feelings for Jules, but he’s also a psycho, right?
Zendaya is always great but Hunter Schafer and Sydney Sweeney are also highlights.July 8, 2019 at 12:50 am #1202965519This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.July 8, 2019 at 12:53 am #1202965521
Phenomenal episode. This show should win cinematography and be nominated for directing.July 8, 2019 at 5:04 am #1202965613
I like this better than the second season of Big Little Lies.July 8, 2019 at 6:38 am #1202965680
This show is like an elevated, R-rated version of Riverdale for me. The plot feels a little all over the place at times and there still appears to be no parental supervision in this town, or consequences for actions (like no one questioned/reported that girl on the carousel? Really?)
So many characters feel one-note and cliched, so I am hoping we get some more layers with them moving forward. Some plots still feel so unnecessary, like McKay as a whole. What is his purpose? He’s in college, so he’s not even around much. I’m sure we will get a backstory episode with him, but 4 episodes in is a little too long to have a character with a subplot that doesn’t tie in much with the central story.
Rue, Jules, and Nate continue to be the most interesting characters in the series, but we are definitely entering Riverdale territory with the whole “catfish/blackmail” combination with Nate and Jules. Did he seriously catfish her because she was with his dad? How did he even know they were together? Does he actually like her? There’s just so much left unanswered and I can’t tell if it poor writing or purposeful.
Zendaya is a great actress, and while I don’t think she will be nominated for anything, I wouldn’t be upset if she was.
I’ll watch until the end, but I just wish the cast of characters was more well-rounded.July 8, 2019 at 7:17 am #1202965756
This show sucks lol. But it’s so bad that it’s fun to watch.July 8, 2019 at 7:18 am #1202965759

I’m pretty sure he’s gay and he only pulled out the blackmail after Jules pulled away when they kissed. He’s afraid of word spreading about him and since Jules isn’t on board with their “relationship,” he’s got to somehow protect himself.July 8, 2019 at 3:32 pm #1202966633
I really like Zendaya and Schafer together in the show; you can really see their chemistry. I think, after the third episode, Zendaya will get nominated for the Globe and maybe even the Emmy. Watching her with Jules and then Fezco in the end was heartbreaking, and Zendaya fades away when she acts…it’s all Rue. And in this week’s episode where she had that moment with Gia near the end where she was with McKay’s brothers. It just felt really authentic and human. She’s really consistent.July 10, 2019 at 12:49 pm #1202969747
