I honestly can’t imagine this not being incredibly offensive and in poor taste personally. One can hope its more People vs OJ than AHS or Scream Queens but based on the tone of the first season I’m seeing in the trailers, while perfect for that story, I don’t really see that working for this story without pissing off a lot of people.
Bette and Joan were famous actresses who actively played up their rivalry and enjoyed the attention. Charles and specifically Diana were people who oftened shunned the attention and went through a lot of personal crises due to their status (Diana suffered from depression, bulimia, and committed self-harm during her marriage and ended up dying at 36). Who thought this was a good idea. Maybe someone can explain to me how this will work, please do because I would so much rather this be good than exploitative.March 1, 2017 at 11:25 am #1202027264
Not that Murphy isn’t Camp King, but I think this Bette/Joan thing is campy because in reality, it was campy too. Nobody died, nobody got hurt, they played it up to get attention, they were the ones who made it so over the top because they were entertainers who lived for it, so this season reflects that.
I have to asume that the following season would be more personal, dramatic, maybe intimate portrayal of a marriage coming together, falling apart, the crazyness of being a royal person. You won’t see Camila, Charles and Diana with clown makeup on a window with bars on the poster. Of course there’s the tabloids, the affairs on both sides, Harry possibly not being his son, Camila, the Queen disliking her, Diana not liking the royal aspect of it all and so on. That wouldn’t hurt anyone, that actually happened, and many of those things are regular life weather you’re a royal or not. What I mean is that I doubt we’ll see him gaying it up when she gets into that tunnel with Al Fayed and motorcycles on their tail. That part is the dramatic part, that’s where disrespect might be felt and people getting pissed off. But everything else is normal everyday life. The fact that this season is what it is, doesn’t mean that every following season will be too.
Don’t expect Versace to be the same as OJ either, for example. Much less Katrina.March 1, 2017 at 11:44 am #1202027277
Michael Sheen as Charles would be excellent. I wasn’t seeing it for Emily Blunt at first, but now I do with the blonde wig. Part of me wants to be wowed by unknowns in these roles, but I know that’s not how this all works.March 1, 2017 at 4:53 pm #1202027476This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.March 1, 2017 at 5:06 pm #1202027481
This is going to be a bit of a reach, so bear with me here:
For some reason, I can only currently see Julianne Moore as Camilla. When I was looking at a photo of Camilla from the 90’s, her and Julianne have similar mouths when they half smile. But can she do a British accent?
Camilla’s extremely crooked teeth keep throwing me off, though, while JM’s are perfectly straight.March 1, 2017 at 5:22 pm #1202027494This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.March 1, 2017 at 5:43 pm #1202027500
Tracey Ullman in all the parts. She has proved that she can do it.March 1, 2017 at 6:30 pm #1202027576This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.March 1, 2017 at 6:33 pm #1202027578
http://www.indiewire.com/2017/03/feud-charles-and-diana-casting-suggestions-ryan-murphy-1201788538/ Some of this casting is perfect- the only flaw is no Sarah Paulson. There will always be a Sarah Paulson. and we know she can do a British accent from AHS
Yeah, but at the same time her accent wasn’t as good as it could’ve been.March 1, 2017 at 11:27 pm #1202027641This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.
