Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and Comedy Directing are ones I’m most conflicted about.

Seems like HBO’s submission strategy will pay off this Sunday, scoring more wins than Netflix, who got more nominations.

    Drama Series: Succession

    Actor: Strong

    Actress: Linney

    Supp Actor: Esposito

    Supp Actress: Garner

Writing/Directing: This is Not for Tears

    Comedy Series: Schitt’s Creek

    Actor: Youssef

    Actress: O’Hara

    Supp Actor: Shalhoub

    Supp Actress: Borstein

    Writing: Happy Ending

    Directing: Comedy or Cabbage

(Suddenly rethinking a lot of the comedy categories but resisting the urge to make last minute changes. Wouldn’t shock me at all to see Eugene win Actor but Writing go to Good Place or Shadows)

    Limited: Watchmen

    Actor: Mescal

    Actress: King

    Supp Actor: Abdul Mateen II

    Supp Actress: Aduba

    Writing/Directing: This Extraordinary Being

My predictions based on my confidence level in them, from most to least:

    • Limited Series – Watchmen
    • Drama Series – Succession
    • Comedy Series – Schitt’s Creek
    • Variety Talk Series – John Oliver
    • Drama Writing – Succession
    • Competition Program – RPDR
    • Lead Actress – Regina King
    • Limited Series Writing – Watchmen
    • Lead Actress – Catherine O’Hara
    • Comedy Writing – Schitt’s Creek (Happy Ending)
    • Lead Actress – Zendaya
    • Supporting Actor – Kieran Culkin
    • Supporting Actor – Yahya Abdul Mateen II
    • Drama Directing – This is Not for Tears (Succession)
    • Lead Actor – Paul Mescal
    • Limited Directing – This Extraordinary Being (Watchmen)
    • Lead Actor – Ramy Youssef
    • Comedy Directing – It’s Comedy or Cabbage
    • Supporting Actress – Uzo Aduba
    • Supporting Actress – Thandie Newton
    • Supporting Actress – D’Arcy Carden
    • Supporting Actor – Mahershala Ali
    • Lead Actor – Steve Carell

All in all I have trouble in pretty much all acting categories Regina King is not nominated in.

My final prediction is Schitt’s Creek for Directing.

That’s mainly because I believe Mrs. Maisel won’t be able to overcome vote-splitting even though Sherman-Palladino should be an easy choice over her husband. The show had its first directing win for the pilot when it was the only episode nominated and the competition were two episodes of Atlanta. Then, the next year, it lost to Fleabag, who won over double episodes of both Maisel and Barry.

It’s a similar situation in Picture Editing. Mrs. Maisel won for its pilot episode over double episodes of Atlanta and Barry, but lost to Fleabag when they had two nominated episodes. Unlike in Directing this year, Mrs. Maisel had only one episode nominated here and yet still lost. Not to Schitt’s Creek, but to Insecure.

The third choice is Ramy, but I find it too bold to predict it and The Kominsky Method getting a Series nomination over it isn’t helpful. My wild guess is that if anyone upsets, if we get another Jason Bateman moment, it will be Mancuso.
