Darling, Chernobyl is winning. Convicted Del Toro will upset and Fatty Arquette is sweeping.

She’s NOT winning. Patricia nightmare came true And that nightmare is that the academy not only watched Fosse/Verdon but they liked it . It’s the second most nominated limited series. Michelle is winning. Not only because she deserves it but she’s the best one of the line up (by far!!!). Her performance is one of the best ones I’ve seen on TV in a very long time. Amy was fantastic in Sharp Objects But HBO should have aired the show in May of last year. She would have easily won. Now she’s going home empty handed. Patricia was also good but she doesn’t even come close to what Michelle achieved.

I think two of the limited acting categories are pretty easy to predict: Best Actress, which will go to Michelle Williams, and Best Supp. Actress, which will go to Patricia Clarkson.

They wouldn’t be my personal picks – that would be Patty Arquette, twice – but they are such clear front-runners in my mind. Williams is the most talked about person in her race at the moment, partly because “Fosse/Verdon” aired rather recently, but mostly because her performance is being touted as one of her best, and one of the year’s best. I didn’t expect the show to blow up as much as it did, but now that it’s so strong, she’s almost a lock IMO. I’m so sad for Patty Arquette, because her turn as Tilly is probably the best acting work I’ve seen all year. But it aired way too long ago, and she already has all the awards, so voters won’t feel like they need to vote for her.

Despite these forums often dismissing her – which I partly get because I didn’t like all of her acting choices in the show – Clarkson is locked and sealed. She will be Sharp Objects’ only win. I’ve heard SO many refer to her performance as “iconic,” “one for the ages” and “a tour de force.” Someone even said she almost outacted Adams. So yes, she’s winning. Again, I’m heartbroken that Arquette’s sublime work in The Act will be overlooked. The problem there is that The Act is not up for series (last year’s 15/16 is sth we can’t ignore) and that she will split the vote with – sigh – herself.

As for Supp. Actor, I am putting my money on Michael K. Williams, because he’s overdue, gives a strong, albeit short, performance and has the backing of the behemoth that is WTSU. I don’t buy and never bought Whishaw. I think Dano is actually in second.

And lead actor will be Jharrel Jerome vs. Jared Harris until the end, but I am going with the former. After you watch episode 4, he’s undeniable (IMO). And the internet – meaning, a bunch of actors – echoed that.

Oscar FYC -- Give Viola Davis her second Oscar!

Yeah, Jerome is so young and he’s not really a true lead in the same way as the recent young winners we’ve seen in this category.

When They See Us is an ensemble piece and it felt like he just happened to have the most screen time because he played the teenage and adult Korey.

Although Ellis and Nash being put in lead is even more confusing to me.

It wasn’t just screen time. Jerome had a standalone episode, basically. He was definitely lead.

I also think Chernobyl will perform better with the tech categories, but WTSU will win Limited Series and an acting category or two.

I would vote for Asante Blackk over Williams. He was the standout in the first episodes.

Asante Blackk was good but they’re not going to vote for a 17 year old over Williams who’s been in the industry for years and has received multiple nominations.

He is 17 now and that is almost 18, but he was 16 when they filmed it and that is not much older than 15.

I won’t call Asante Blackk weak

    How about Finn Wittrock?

Convicted Del Toro will win Lead Actor

    What a random prediction.

I don’t place too much value in the odds but I’m really confused as to why Skarsgard is 4th. Blackk and Leguizamo in combination are strong enough (in different ways) to siphon critical votes away from K. Williams, while supporting actor has now become the logical place to award a Chernobyl performer (Jerome and Clarkson are winning).

According to the odds it would be a surprise win but there are definitely a lot of signals pointing towards it.

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

Great analysis overall. Agree Michelle has this in the bag!!! If somebody else wins i will be hugely surprised. I know you haven’t watched Fosse/Verdon so i can understand why you said you would choose Patricia over her. You really should see it. The show overall is good but Michelle is just… UNBELIEVABLE!!! She’s THAT GOOD!!! You will be over the moon once you see her.  Call me crazy but Patricia is only 4th on my personal list behind Michelle, Amy and Joey. And the reason why she’s not behind Niecy Nash on my list is because of Nash little screentime. She’s not a lead. My explanation for my low placement of Arquette is because, unlike you and other people, i really disliked her performance in EAD. I thought she was way mechanic in the role and i just didn’t feel her in her character at all. Like i said before i didn’t particularly liked Dannemora so perhaps that another reason for me to place her that low. But if anyone beats Michelle then it’s her. For me her best performance was BY FAR in The Act. WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!! She was absolutely stunning and i LOVED HER IN IT. She should be winning the Emmy for this!!! (I know i’m voting for Eliza here at Gold Derby awards but that’s only because i’m amazed and really sad how she has been completely overlooked). I could see her winning to be honest. They could feel like they could make her both winners. If she wins supporting then they can vote for Michelle in lead or like you said she could end up splitting with herself. Clarkson can still win but i don’t think she’s THAT locked tbh. IMO the only person who’s close to be called a lock is Michelle. Clarkson is not undeniable. And her show doesn’t have that much support overall. But at the end of the day the winner will be voted by the acting branch so i don’t know. About Whishaw i don’t know why people are saying that he’s not happening or never bought that he is winning?! He hasn’t lost a major award that he has been nominated for and, unlike both Patricias who are facing much tougher competitors, he’s not. Nobody in his category is a frontrunner right now. To be honest i could see Whishaw, K. Williams, Skarsgård or Dano winning. Only Blackk and Leguizamo don’t have any chance of winning. Supporting Actor is an open race just like Drama Supporting Actress. Basically anyone can win apart from those two actors and obviously Sophie Turner. We have to wait and see. Lead Actor, just like you said, is definitely between Harris and Jerome. I’m predicting Jerome (and i’m also rooting for him) because his role is bigger and showier. Harris is fantastic but he’s too internal and doesn’t have many big moments. But the two would be equally deserving of the gold.
