If only the writers vote for the writing category, Craig Mazin will take it. He’s a renown figure among the writing industry and is uncredited for a lot of script edits.

Only writers vote, so yes, I think that Mazin has this, but not because of his career, just on merit. When They See Us is not going to win writing, is not its strongest asset, a possible surprise would be A Very English Scandal or Fosse/Verdon, both are exquisitely written and far more writing achievements than a directing ones. Another reminder that all SEVEN limited series that are nominated in the different categories are strong (the only weak one is the 8 nominee – True Detective with just 1 nomination that can be because of Ali’s status regardless of the quality of his performance which I know is strong), this is not only between WTSU and Chernobyl.

I have to say that Fosse/Verdon is probably the least likely to upset in writing as it was one of its most criticized aspects. I’m still convinced it only got that nomination because of wealth spreading, but agreed that other series could upset in writing.

I never saw those critics towards the writing, the nominated episode “Providence” is incredibly well written in my humble opinion.

Isn’t it funny how we don’t know how many wins or if any our favorites are getting so we’ll just take that one particular win and be more than happy with just that. I only want Best Miniseries win while mafro or Marcus want just Jerome win. I can live with Jerome winning cause he was great and I hope you guys can live with Chernobyl winning Best Miniseries. Hope we all get what we want.

Good point, but I don’t have even that, I have many several favorites in most categories and is harder for me to choose, my biggest desire is for a good winner in Writing in Drama since this has always been my favorite category, I would not be able to bear a GoT win there…

Providence is the standout of the season for sure, but even if you just go on MC most critics are calling the show’s writing out for relying on conventional biography tropes and never rising to the greatness of the performances. It bodes well for Williams to win but it’s not the type of show that I see getting support in the writing branch. But to each their own, I agree that it’s still a fairly well written episode.

Imo I think that WTSU’s writing for Part 4 is incredibly underrated on here, Chernobyl still takes it for me personally but DuVernay really pulled a hat trick in being able to fit Korey’s story into just one episode while creating a naturally emotionally impactful character arc.

I still think WTSU is the frontrunner. It was never going to sweep below the line. Chernobyl was a surefire winner going into last night given its big nominations haul.

Also this decade, all shows/movies who have won Casting, won Limited Series/Movie except in 2011 when Downton Abbey won over Mildred Pierce. (Because category fraud!)

Still predicting Jerome for Lead Actor anf Asante Blackk to win Supporting Actor (NGNG ala my Regina King prediction last year)

I’ve seen 3 eps so far, and I find Fosse/Verdon to be so incredibly basic and borderline generic in the way it’s telling its story. The editing is all over the place. Thank God for the performance and the visuals, because they’re keeping this show afloat. No idea why this has 17 nods. Hopefully the next few eps change my mind.

Chernobyl is a beast of its own kind. I doubt that the series that won Casting and went on to win Limited Series had a competitor as strong. I think this would work if Chernobyl didn’t have so much support from all the other branches.

I ranked him #2 after Williams, I think there is a very real chance he could win.

Actually it gets worse. I even lost interest and just barely made it through the final few episodes. The writing is very basic, they could have played a bit with the structure to make it all a more interesting ride. But nope…

I think Chernobyl beating Game of Thrones for Production Design was a big indicator of how much support the former actually has. Game of Thrones is a beast in this category. It had won 5 times before and for its past four eligible seasons. It won last year over the likes of Westworld ( had gotten double noms the previous year and had beaten Thrones at the guild), The Crown (won for previous season), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Alienist without any major setpiece. This year Game of Thrones had less stiff competition and a great submission in The Bells, where the scope of the sets was unprecedented. Yet it was Chernobyl which eventually prevailed. Almost all of Game of Thrones’ other losses came in categories where it had never been popular, like Cinematography or Hairstyling. It even picked up Sound Editing after losing it for the past 2 seasons.

People are taking Chernobyl’s Creative Arts dominance lightly, just like they did with Game of Thrones last year. We need to view this less superficially. There’s lot more to unpack sometimes.

WTSU casting win makes total sense even if it flops next Sunday unlike other years. You can’t deny such cast by giving it to something else. That said it’s not winning miniseries, it’ll take 0-2 acting awards and that’s it.

I’ll agree the editing is a bit all over the place, but I definitely disagree that the storytelling is basic / generic. I think they do a good job with jumping time periods when it is relevant and making it clear when they are doing so. I would rather that and make it interesting than something chronological and boring.

The last two episodes ‘Nowadays’ and ‘Providence’ are quite good and are my favorites of the show by far. Michelle’s performance in those two episodes is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Once you watch the last episode you’ll also understand why Qualley got nominated. That audition scene is amazing!!! But I agree that the editing is a bit messy sometimes.
