The fact that “ronny/lily” didn’t win for directing just shows how big this Fleabag bandwagon really is. Bill Hader deserved that award without question. Not saying Harry Bradbeer didn’t do a fantastic job, but this shouldn’t have been his time.

It is equivalent to if Sapochnik had lost for Battle of the Bastards. They are both such unique singular achievements in directing that denying them a win, even for something good is extremely frustrating. I would have much rather preferred to see Hader winning only Directing than only Actor. He can still take DGA though if that’s any compensation.

Fleabag is the overall better show but Barry is still excellent and both are addicting and engaging as holy hell.

    totally agree!

But actually, I’m tired of this conversation and Im annoyed I’m even typing this. My two cents is Barry is more ambitious but due to this has some issues where as Fleabag is simple (yet detailed) but air tight and essentially flawless. I think a more interesting conversation is Fleabag vs Barry vs Atlanta.

jk, just kidding. I find both shows terrific and quite uncomparable but I’m gonna give this one to Fleabag. simply put Waller-Bridge had much courage to compress such complex and vivid stories in such short time. it’s a feat that might have left the show looking shallow or underdeveloped but it completed all its lines and didn’t leave nothing behind. It’s straight-foward and doesn’t waste a single minute, all greatly calculated. Hoping there’s no season 3 just for the success, but if she truly feels there’s more to be told. Many people feel you need to require some length or structure to succeed a story and Phoebe just ignored and gave it all straight. Props for that.

Barry, on the other hand, has great production values and an acid humour porued in such tragic storylines. it’s a delight to watch the show and I want to watch more. However, what left me behind was how the show is still trying to find its tone (as the drama and comedy are not completely balanced yet). But I believe Bill Hader is going the right track and it might become the best comedy show next season. (if TMMM stops being excellent somehow qq)

He better. No one has deserved it more since BOTB…

Since when is the Emmy winner the better show in recent years?

Fleabag and Barry are both great shows. The comparison isn’t exactly fair since most people oversees haven’t seen Barry. Amazon is a more accessible streaming service over HBO. Fleabag is funnier and is an overall better comedy but Barry does better with engaging subplots and still manages to incorporate comedic elements. Barry is the overall better show but Fleabag is still excellent and both are addicting and engaging as holy hell.

Interesting, because in Europe I would say it is completely the opposite. Not sure if other folks from our continet can confirm this, but I would say HBO and HBO Go is far more popular and “accessible” than Amazon Prime.

Basicially, in my country if you have cable then chances are you also have HBO & HBO Go. On its own HBO Go is one of the most popular VOD services while Amazon Prime is pretty much non existent. It’s probably not even in top 10.

Overall, HBO content around the world is more popular, imo. And so is Barry.

I’m confused – if you believe this then why is Fleabag getting your top vote in the GoldDerby decade awards and Barry only in third?

I live in Norway, and HBO Nordic is more popular than Amazon Prime here. But I don’t think I’ve seen a single ad for Barry outside the HBO Nordic twitter/instagram, who barely ever mention it, and it never makes it onto the ‘most popular this month’-lists. I’ve seen a little more talk about Fleabag, one of our largest newspapers did a podcast episode about it, but that’s about it. I’ve had one person ask me if I knew about Fleabag, I’ve not had anyone mention Barry without me introducing them to the series first.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that HBO itself is popular or even known over here, but Sky streams nearly all their shows, so I wouldn’t say that Barry is completely unknown here. But to be honest, I know like 2 people that are familiar with either one. They’ll know the big US/UK shows like GOT or Sherlock, and the majority of Netflix shows, but that’s about it.

Where I live HBO Go is far more popular too (GoT + being free if you pay for the cable channel helped that). A lot of people don’t even know what Prime Video is.

Because like I said earlier, I found it to be the better comedy and where I put Fleabag in top was for the comedy decade award. I’ll probably switch it for Parks and Rec. What’s up with you always looking at my voting process? Do you just enjoy calling people out or…

Seems strange to punish Barry for its category placement but each to their own.

To be honest, you’re the only person I ever really call out on this. I’m so interested in other people’s predictions and votes so always have a look if someone says something interesting. So for example with yours I was like “oh she seems pretty big on Barry I wonder if she voted for it for the decade awards”. I was then surprised to see that you had Fleabag higher and as your comedy of the decade when you are pretty much the most vocal person on these forums about downplaying how good that show was. That’s why I asked. So my questions are nothing personal. I just notice these inconsistencies so am curious to see if there’s a reason for them.

PS: Nice to see you’ve already switched Parks and Rec to the top 😉
