TVLine has learned exclusively that Paramount+ — the streamer soon to be formerly known as CBS All Access — is circling the years-in-the-making project, which would find Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane. (Frasier is, of course, a Paramount property.)
According to sources, the hope is that Pierce, Leeves and Gilpin would all be involved in the revival in some capacity. If the project is greenlit (and an insider maintains that it is still very much in the if stage), we’re told shooting could begin as early as this summer.

I think he will be there but Kelsey basically was the anchor anyways

With Martin gone (RIP John Mahoney), I could see them shifting to the next generation father-son dynamic. That would also potentially take some pressure off getting DHP full-time, as Frasier would have a new sparing partner in his son.
I don’t know who they’d cast as the son, but the kid who played Frederick all those years on Frasier is still acting… Not sure what other 30-something actors might be good in the role. Any thoughts?

If they do bring back Niles they need Daphne – fans of the original show won’t accept any scenario in which they’re no longer together I don’t think! Unless Hyde Pierce only appears occasionally.
Niles was always my favourite character in the show (his line delivery was always perfection, and DHP is an absolute master of physical comedy) so I kind of only want to see him back if the show is good.
February 26, 2021 at 2:49 am #1204062380I wonder if they’ll get Laura Linney back too. They obviously don’t need her but it would be interesting to see if her character returns considering how involved she was in Frasier‘s exit arc.
And yes I agree with schmids if they get Hyde Pierce they have to get Daphne too. Having only Hyde Pierce and Grammar is like having only Debra Messing and Megan Mullally in Will and Grace or only Jennifer Aniston in Friends.
I am not sure how I feel about this revival but I always had a fondness for Frasier. I didn’t watch it when it was originally on air (I used to watch the repeats haha) but I always found its writing to be quite sharp and original.

February 26, 2021 at 3:00 am #1204062384Didn’t Jane Leeves very recently say she wouldn’t be part of a reboot? Money changes things, of course, so let’s see. I would imagine they know in order to make it work the entire main cast needs to return in some form.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 26, 2021 at 4:07 am #1204062421As well as adult Frederick (presumably the actor who played him first time round) if Niles and Daphne do return they will need someone to play their son David.

February 26, 2021 at 6:02 pm #1204063774Jane Leeves just said she wouldn’t leave The Resident for reboot. But assume she would agree if they film in hiatus. Plus, David Hyde Pierce is filming Julia Child show. So it has to be everyone’s schedule.
