For me, The Bells was the better episode and it was pure perfection in terms of directing.

Actually both were superb. i watched The Long Night twice (in TV and a computer) and didn’t have any issue with the lightning of the episode. Sapochnik should be nominated twice if not for the ridiculous rule that only one episode can be submitted for Directing. David Nutter should go for A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms which should also be the Writing submission or at least one of them.

The Oscar needs to get rid of the preferential ballot so it can name a deserving movie as Best Picture again.

I do wonder what episode will they submit for Visual Effects. The Long Night had A LOT of amazing VFX but they all were in the dark/night. The Bells also had a lot of amazing VFX and it all was in the light/day. Hard choice.

Besides the obvious problems with “The Bells”, wouldn’t we say that 8×03 or the first part of 8×06 offered a better option for Directing submission? I do think that the tension that they aimed for in 8×05 was lacking and we mostly had mayhem. Didn’t we all know what would happen in this episode the minute Varys was burned?

After Dany’s departure, 8×06 became nothing extraordinary. The post-Drogon closure used the same settings or mirrored scenes from previous seasons in a way the actors did not really shine and the story collapsed (the Dragon pit scene was a chore and the tone was uneven… comedy, cheesy drama?). Is there any merit for Directing there?

As weird as it sounds, I think 8×03 is deserving in that category. At least the characters were not fully (highlight this adverb) lobotomized back then.

I’m guessing The Bells. But if they want to avoid “backlash episodes” then The Long Night.

Emilia Clarke is the only one who has responded with class on the reactions coming in.

Gwendolyn Christie handled questions on the petition really well also.

Oh my god, that’s so terrible. More credit to the actors then if this is what they had to deal with.

Dear god, that’s appalling! Inferring an actress is too stupid to know about a famous film (might be accurate, who knows, but to put it in the script)! I’m guessing that some of these things are put in to give the cast a laugh as they do their table reading, but surely an Emmy submitted script is ‘cleaned up’ for various corrections anyway. I know it’s very much a rhetorical question but, what kind of idiots leave that in as a stage direction?!

I’m just dreading what kind of juvenile, fratboy-humour scripts they will submit for season 8’s Emmy campaign?! If that was season 7, and the consensus was that the writing wasn’t great, but it wasn’t the dumpster fire level we got in season 8, I hate to think about the release of the scripts.

Mind you, I’d be super interested to see any differences between the scripts and the final product. There always is some variance, to account for director-led changes, actor improv etc, but this season the writing was so awful, I almost can’t believe any of that was changed from the original brain farts of D&D!
