. But the thing that really makes me think Hoult and Fanning have a very strong chance at winning here is that these are actors who seem like very typical HFPA choices. Someone mentioned how no one would watch Fanning in a film because of her name but there is literally an Oscar bait film being released next year whose main pull is the fact both Fanning sisters are in it. ).
And They are literally playing Sisters in The Nightingale.
It would be very Funny if Fanning snatch The Globes next year, The Great S2 Came in time for Emmy 2021 and getting nominated or even win it, and then Got Nominated for either Lead or Supporting in 2022 Oscars(Im putting her in lead in GD’s 2022 Oscars forum since she is the titular character but it could go for Category fraud like Alicia Vikander and Viola Davis).
Her performance in The Great seems legit to be her first major award win (and surpass her sister lol) that is totally well deserved and I Think the other main (yet unpopular factor) for Fanning to win it is the fact that Fanning is playing against type in The Great (She always known as a serious and dramatic actress altough she is a regular in a period pieces). I don’t know whether playing against type will be a factor in Globes though
And I think the main reason a person said “People wouldn’t watch a movie with Fanning in it” is due to the fact that her movies in recent years apart from Maleficent and Oscar bait like The Beguiled and Live By Night are small, cheap indie flick that premiered at festivals and went to have limited release that gross little amount of money(and its not from Oscar bait studios like Searchlight, Focus Features or Sony Classics).
As reminder, this was Saoirse Ronan back in early 2010s lol. Who watched Violet & Daisy and How I Live Now, or even Byzantium? The Way Back (not to be confused with recent Ben Affleck basketball movie) bombed at the Box Office although have a good critical reception.
Hoult is definetly coming for his Supporting actor win. He totally deserves it after getting snubbed for The Favourite. A lock for noms certainly. it would be a war crime if he didnt get nominated.
That being said, both are B-List borderline to A-list actors that deserves to get in or even win it

Don’t know about definitely for the win (I think Josh O’Connor stands a chance) but he’s definitely in contention for it.

December 3, 2020 at 8:59 am #1203891881The thing with Levy is I’ve literally seen no one outside of GD talk about the show and I’ve seen no one in the industry mention it. That hasn’t been the case for The Great where I’ve seen lots of people in the industry talk about it online.
That’s not how this works.
Two hints for everyone: 1) Look at the HFPA 2020 banquet. A lot of your answers will be found there. 2) Schitt’s is not winning.

Different Levy (Jane), not a Schitt’s Levy

I searched this and I found that last year people like Ben Platt, Ramy Youssef and Sacha Baron Cohen were there which resulted with nominations. This year’s guests include Christian Slater, Ethan Hawke, Jason Sudeikis, Rita Moreno, Anna Kendrick, Awkwafina, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jurnee Smollett, Mary J. Blige, Nicole Kidman, Paul Mescal, Tracee Ellis Ross and the cast of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

No Respect before it got moved.
December 3, 2020 at 11:08 am #1203892296Just out of curiosity, why are we assuming O’Hara isn’t in the running for the win? The Globes have all of drama and limited to award someone for the first time, it’s not out of the question for them to copy the Emmys in comedy (at least in series/actress…I’d bet money Sudeikis is winning).

I’d probably would argue that both Fanning and Hoult are doing a lot of press for the HFPA for ‘The Great’, same goes for the cast of ‘Ted Lasso’.
Also, Zoey’s is returning just in time for the Globes and it’s a musical, which they love, out of all shows I think Schitt’s Creek is the least buzz-y right now.But i can be wrong.
December 3, 2020 at 11:15 am #1203892317O’Hara is definitely still the frontrunner for me. The Globes like new, shiny things but they also hate to miss the boat and O’Hara is the perfect place to reward the show.
(*whispers* I also don’t overly understand everyone’s unwavering confidence in The Great)

No, I was talking about Jane in reference to the original post. But my second tidbit was against the general notion that Schitt’s is winning Comedy.

As I said I’m still considering O’Hara and Schitt’s (I’m getting an Americans vibe for the show for some reason) but it’s not out of question for them to just give Aduba the win (if they want to copy the Emmys at least once this year) and call it a day.
