Let’s go Kaley Cuoco!
December 3, 2020 at 3:27 pm #1203892967Welp, I guess the masterclass in acting both Applegate and Cardellini deliver in Dead to Me is going to be ignored here after all. O’Hara, Cuoco, Fanning, Levy, Collins.
Pretty confident Applegate is still getting in.
I never bought Cardellini. I didn’t even think she was getting in when the predictions centre opened and I had Applegate, Collins, Fanning, O’Hara and Rae. If they’re not going to nominate both of Comer and Oh or Cox and Strong then why would they nominate both Applegate and Cardellini for a show that has less buzz and hasn’t won any major awards yet.
On a side note I do think Cuoco moving to Comedy puts O’Hara in a vulnerable position. Cuoco and Fanning are locks and Collins, Levy, Applegate and Rae are strong possibilities. If they snub Schitt’s in Comedy I can easily see O’Hara miss and E. Levy be the only nominee (not something I’m predicting but it is a possibility).
Thank god Billie is ineligible here (although for some reason I do think she would have gotten a Drama nomination here because that field is empty too) because otherwise Comedy Actress would be a bloodbath.
FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"
December 3, 2020 at 3:30 pm #1203892974I think they can snub Schitt’s Creek tbh.
December 3, 2020 at 3:59 pm #1203893072We pretty much expected it, but “Genius: Aretha” will not be airing in time for this year’s Globes or SAG. It should be a big player at the next Emmys, though.
December 3, 2020 at 5:43 pm #1203893210The way Cuoco just made C/M actress even more of a bloodbath whilst the male counterpart is struggling to get a full set of nominees with better reaction than “meh”.
December 3, 2020 at 6:33 pm #1203893256Am i delusional enough for still predicting Fanning to win in Comedy Actress??
I mean, it could be Zendaya’s case in this year’s Emmys where she beat Colman and Linney and same as Fanning, Zendaya is a young darling of the indusry. But considering Emmys and Globes had different voters, we dont know

Comedy actor is gonna be the most interesting in terms of nominations. I have no idea what they are gonna do to fill it. I still think Sudakis has it in the bag.
Im curious if my crazy John c relily nomination pick is gonna pay off.

No. She’s the star of the argued front runner for Series and has been acclaimed by multiple HFPA members. I think you’re in the right still predicting her.
FYC Oscars: Soul (Best Picture, Original Screenplay, and Original Score), Delroy Lindo (Best Actor), Chadwick Boseman (Best Actor), Viola Davis (Best Actress), Paul Raci (Best Supporting Actor)
FYC Golden Globes (TV): Ted Lasso (Best Comedy Series), Jason Sudekis (Best Actor in a Comedy Series), Hannah Waddingham (Best Supporting Actress), The Boys (Best Drama Series), Anthony Starr (Best Actor in a Drama Series)

Agree with it being interesting (and the emptiness of it being fun to predict). Just meant that all of Actress contender feel like they are somebodies absolute favourite of the year, whereas a good half of the contenders for Actor only feel like that and the other half are just place fillers.
still think Sudakis has it in the bag.
Outside of Sudekis (& the incumbent Youssef), throw at the next 9-12(ish) contenders in any order and you wouldn’t be wrongz
Any combination of *deep breath* Amell; Armison; Berry; Burd; Butterfield; Cheadle; Cimino; Gervais; Levy; Morris; Noyvak; Platt and Reilly are all viable for a nom right and that’s exciting. Can’t remember the last time an acting category has ever been this open.
I’m curious if my crazy John c relily nomination pick is gonna pay off.
Think he’s closer to a nomination than he isn’t. He’s a recognisable and it’s Showtime.

It’s not delusional. Her show is the likeliest to get a supporting nomination here. I do think it’s Fanning vs Cuoco now and I can see Fanning win the Globe and Cuoco win SAG.
What might be worth mentioning with regards to Series is that the past two winners both had their principal supporting players nominated. I’m leaning towards Ted Lasso right now but if The Great gets Hoult in and Schitt’s Creek under-performs I’d say the Series race is over.
I don’t understand the under-estimation of The Great on here. Especially considering Fanning is one of the only locks for a nomination in this category.

December 4, 2020 at 3:08 am #1203893634So Letitia Wright is out?
I don’t think they will ignore Small Axe completely so I’m tempted to put John Boyega in.

I wonder whether Cuoco has the same buzz among HFPA members as Fanning. Is that the case??
Oh and someone mentioned that Cuoco has playing against type narrative. I think Fanning has the same narrative since this is her first comedic role with counting that Woody Allen movie out (In interviews she said The Great is her first comedic role so apparently she already denounced Allen following Chalamet and co). Previously she always known as dramatic actress
And counting O’Hara out of the race for the win since she is the current Emmy winner while Fanning got snubbed there sounds kinda weird

Whilst in terms of the bait (and acclaim) behind their shows they couldn’t be more different but I think either Cuoco ends up being this year’s Aniston or she just sweeps her way to the Emmys. Just like Aniston she’s playing against the type but also whilst Aniston is a much bigger name and is a big film star both Aniston and Cuoco made their names in shows very popular with the general public. I think hopelessstar mentioned this but what helped Aniston is that Friends is a show that was and still is popular with audiences so Cuoco could win SAG for example partly because she played Penny on The Big Bang Theory lol.
Won’t count O’Hara out for the win if she gets the nomination but there is a false equivalence often made here that if you win the Emmy or your show does well at the Emmys that you’re automatically a lock here. I’ve seen it being made by people with Unorthodox and I’ve seen it made with Schitt’s Creek. Just last year we saw how the HFPA humiliated Game of Thrones and only nominated Harrington. We saw how even though The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a show they love how they snubbed Shalhoub and Borstein (and nominated Scott who got snubbed btw instead of Shalhoub). I could go on.
Point being just because you’ve won the Emmy it doesn’t mean that you’re automatically locked to sweep the whole season. The HFPA have historically never liked Schitt’s Creek and it faces more competition now than it did at the Emmys (Ted Lasso, The Flight Attendant but also The Great was building in buzz around the time of the Emmys still which is evident in it achieving what no show other than Schitt’s Creek did in getting writing AND directing nominations). Not saying it can’t get everyone in or that O’Hara can’t win (after all it just made awards history) but the show could literally go anywhere from 5 nominations to just a sole nod for E. Levy (who is locked because who else is there in that category apart from Sudeikis and Youssef who can be ahead of him?) It’s not as if the Emmys have nominated HFPA darlings like Catriona Balfe, Homecoming, The Affair (outside of Tierney) or The Loudest Voice either so I don’t think it’s weird for one to consider Fanning more than O’Hara (at least at this point).

December 4, 2020 at 5:17 am #1203893735Oh okay thanks for the explanation.
So it is safe to say that Fanning still has a strong chance in winning (im counting Cuoco with equal chance though) despite the much tougher competition especially from Cuoco??
