Kate Mara and Nick Robinson getting that last minute boost

In addition to being the most-watched FX on Hulu exclusive (surpassing Mrs. America), the audience delivery for A Teacher was +42% higher than FX’s freshman comedy series DAVE, which was FX’s most-watched show on Hulu and the highest rated comedy series in FX history.

Reage Jean-Page will not be nominated. Globes nominate good performances, and the one of Jean-Page isn’t. Neither Starr , who many people are predicting. They Will nominate Annan and Odenkirk first. They really did good performances.

But it was good, for sure much better than Starr and Jean-Page

Please, Antony Starr eats Kit Harrington with ease.

So I was among the users who were pushing Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist the most but I’m having a lot of doubts lately. Jane Levy missed CC and while s2 is currently airing, it has absolutely no buzz to the point of having literally only one review registered on metacritic. It’s just doesn’t have the buzz nor the critical push shows like Jane The Virgin or Crazy Ex-Girlfriend had. So after having the show and Levy in for months, I’m considering simply dropping both.

SUPPORTING ACTRESS
(ranked in order of perceived likelihood of nomination)

1. Gillian Anderson, The Crown – I feel very strongly about the fact that she is not winning. The performance has too many detractors. But equally it has too many fans and is too baity to possibly miss here.

———————————————

2. Uzo Aduba, Mrs. America – One of the things that I hate the most about awards seasons in general is that frequently narratives happen by accident. Prior to the Emmy nominations, Uzo Aduba was not even agreed upon as the stand out from her own show by those who had watched all of it. But then Emmy voters only watched half of it and suddenly Aduba found herself as the most acclaimed of the Mrs. America performances nominated. With a field of other contenders that everyone felt were great but not really win worthy, Aduba was thus able to scoop the win (helped of course by the increasing political pertinence of the woman she was playing). And now, because she’s won the Emmy, purely by the circumstances of her nomination, the narrative forms that she is the notable supporting turn of the show. For if the HFPA watch the whole thing now (or even if they don’t), they enter with the mindset of her as the one to recognise. And that’s just how it is. So sorry Sarah Paulson but yes, I feel pretty certain that Aduba’s perfectly good performance is going to get here. And she may even win.

———————————————

3. Marielle Heller, The Queen’s Gambit – If she were in more episodes and in a showier role, I’d be more confident. But the category is wide open and this is the show of 2020’s end. It’s absolutely strong enough to get a supporting contender in so I expect it to do just that. She won’t win though. This year’s Toni Collette.

———————————————

4. Fiona Shaw, Killing Eve – So, yeah, from this point on I have little idea. This prediction is almost entirely a gut instinct and if she misses I won’t even shrug. But sometimes the HFPA is a lot more shrewd than we give them credit for, especially with shows they have previously rewarded but are still watching. This category also loves a British character actress. I need to take the show out of my series predictions now.

———————————————

5. Hannah Waddingham, Ted Lasso – I really, very strongly feel that she is not going to get nominated. It’s just not the type of performance that gets nominated her (and not just because it’s a comic one). But I’ve just slotted her in because, unlike everyone else I am yet to name, she is on a show that I am certain that the HFPA is going to be desperate to reward.

———————————————

6. Julia Garner, Ozark – Hasn’t actually been snubbed by them since she first broke through with SAG. Now she’s got back-to-back Emmys. But I am unconvinced by a third season show suddenly bursting forth and in the most uncertain category.

7. Letitia Wright, Small Axe – Just removed. She’s certainly the right kind of rising star in terms of career thus far. But my instincts tell me that Small Axe is a Series nom only kind of show for the Globes. They’ll want to recognise the overall achievement rather than the individual parts. Mostly, I’d imagine, because they won’t have actually watched it.

8. Annie Murphy, Schitt’s Creek – I said the same of Dan Levy but she could really win if she gets in. Not only is she a young starlet on the rise but the fact that all of the cast won at the Emmys means the HFPA could get to be the ones to single her (the least famous) out. But that lack of fame is also to her detriment because I don’t see Schitt’s Creek going from five shutouts to 5 nominations. She makes sense as the one to miss first and foremost.

———————————————

9. Jessie Buckley, Fargo – Her moment is coming and sometimes the Globes jump the gun a bit in their desperation to be first. But everyone has forgotten about the show and I’m not sure there’s quite enough attention around Buckley yet for her to be memorable regardless. Another potential victor though.

10. Helena Bonham Carter, The Crown – The only reason I don’t have her is because I have to draw a line somewhere with the show’s acting nods. If they run out of ideas they may just go all in and that’s where HBC could benefit.

———————————————

11. Sharon Stone, Ratched – It’s the HFPA.

12. Tracey Ullman, Mrs. America – I mentioned their love of British character actresses here and Ullman is certainly that – only with a higher profile! The Aduba narrative holds her back. Only gets in if they really love the show.

13. Holland Taylor, Hollywood – Emmy nominated and this category skews towards those in Limited Series. As discussed, I am – perhaps naively – confident that Hollywood is getting in somewhere. If she actually deserved it at all, she’d be higher.

14. Holly Hunter, The Comey Rule – I know I sound like a broken record but they could really go for this show! Or they could not! Hunter is the right age and suitably random without being embarrassing at all.

15. Noma Dumezweni, The Undoing – She is unfortunate to have three co-stars better positioned that her on a show that isn’t win competitive. I feel she only gets in if one of the others is overlooked and I don’t see that happening as things are. Benefits from being the secret MVP.

16. Cynthia Erivo, The Outsider – If it hadn’t been so long ago this could be a real possibility. As it is, Erivo’s popularity and recent Oscar nomination is the only thing keeping her on the radar.

And I think I’ll leave it there despite the temptation to drag in the likes of Patti LuPone. Thanks to everyone who has bothered to read these splurges over the past few weeks. Roll on nomination morning.

Norman Lear is getting the Carol Burnett Award, wonder if this could get Rita Moreno nominated for One Day at a Time.

I had a dream last night that Jurnee Smollett was the only black actress nominated this year, including the film categories. They felt guilty about it and gave her the award. Considering it’s the Globes, it was not even an unrealistic dream lol

I have taken Dynevor out (I had 100/1 odds on her so RIP me I guess lol). I feel like a Greys Anatomy type thing where the charismatic romantic male lead gets in but not the female counterpart.

I wonder if one of Coughlan or Bailey could break into supporting here like Sandra Oh did for Greys.

I have though on removing her
But idk, the show is being enormously huge so if it can break through i feel like it can
