Info on season 5
Throw away the walking sticks and rekindle your love of life because your favorite senior ladies are coming back from more!
Netflix announced Wednesday that its hit series Grace and Frankie has been renewed for a fifth season which will premiere in 2019. And because the ladies (portrayed by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin) are never allowed to lead an easy life, they’ll be bumping heads with a new nemesis next season played by none other than RuPaul! The star of RuPaul’s Drag Race enters the fray in a guest star arc as Benjamin Le Day who, according to the show’s log line, is “a formidable and quick-witted adversary who faces off with Grace and Frankie” — like we expected anything less!

Has anyone watched? I finished the season yesterday, and as a big fan of the first four seasons, I was not impressed with Season 5 (save for the excellent finale).
Of course the cast continues to be stellar and it’s a great ensemble as always. And the show becomes “very comfortable” this season, BUT it’s basically a retread of plots from previous seasons. Season 5 lacked the urgency that Seasons 1 through 4 had. I was surprised how quick they wrapped up the cliffhanger from Season 4. Obviously I wasn’t expecting a “House of Sand and Fog” storyline to get their house back, but it was was handled so fast that made the events from Season 4 feel like they held no weight. I’d also suggest to get rid of the musical storylines.
However, the “what-if” finale was excellent, and Jane Fonda had the great comedic chops to pull that off. That would be a great tape for her. Tomlin could go with the crosswalk episode, too. But I still think Fonda was MVP this year (again…I’d argue she’s the better performer, even though Tomlin gets most of the awards buzz), even with weak material for both.
A Dolly Parton reunion would be a nice touch for the future…just sayin’.January 20, 2019 at 6:49 pm #1202741253

I feel like what often gets lost in the shadows of the iconic actors who play their parents is how really funny the kids are in this show, especially June Diane Raphael and Brooklyn Decker. There are episodes where they provide more LOL moments for me than anyone else.January 23, 2019 at 6:27 am #1202745382
I maintain this show should be winning best cast at the SAG yearly … they are all perfection

Agree that “The Crosswalk” is definitely the standout episode of the season. The rest of the season felt mehhhhh to me. I’ve thought each season has improved upon the last, but this season did not meet the standards of S4. I feel like they are trying too hard with the comedy schtick of Lily Tomlin & Jane Fonda and just making them say/reference outlandish things to get reactions out of the audience.May 20, 2019 at 6:51 pm #1202902366
I heart Grace & Frankie.
The Crosswalk is a great episode.
