The show is more fun than funny. I was amused throughout both episodes, but didn’t crack up once. It’s 30 Rock meets UKS. Andrea Martin could get a supporting nod for this.April 26, 2017 at 9:36 am #1202076891
This was nice and endearing. Nicole Richie was surprisingly funny in her role. Heelan reminded me of Fey with some of her mannerisms.April 26, 2017 at 10:50 am #1202076952
I enjoyed the first two episodes and they both had some genuine laughs. Comedies take time to grow into their true potential, and every review I’ve read says it gets there with every passing episode. The late season, two episodes a week burnoff is odd considering the talent behind and in front of the camera (seriously, why did NBC do this to two different comedies this season?) and normally, I would think that means the show probably won’t come back for a second season (or at the very least, be considered for the fall schedule). But who knows what NBC is thinking. They have “Superstore” and “The Good Place” renewed so far. They’ve essentially cancelled “Powerless.” I am praying “Trial & Error” comes back, and this one seems good enough too but it’s too early to say.April 26, 2017 at 11:27 am #1202076963
This show is… not that good. It feels like a pretty crappy version of 30 Rock. The fact that it’s so much like 30 Rock but far less funny makes me dislike it more, not appreciate it as a 30 Rock fan. Martin, Higgins, and Richie are all really good but the lead actress is absolutely horrible, her scenes are hard to watch. That being said, the first two episodes were actually better than 30 Rock’s first two episodes which were pretty bad, so maybe it can get better. 30 Rock had a better cast and a much better lead though.

I thought this was great. Andrea Martin is totally lead here right? Or does she have better chances in supporting?April 29, 2017 at 9:45 pm #1202080252This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.May 1, 2017 at 1:58 pm #1202081777This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.May 2, 2017 at 6:41 pm #1202082974This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.May 2, 2017 at 7:26 pm #1202082984This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.May 2, 2017 at 7:56 pm #1202082992
I usually drag NBC for their comedies because they are horrific. But this is okay I guess. It’s watchable. Martin had me rolling a couple of times so she can get in for supporting. But I like Trial & Error much better.May 3, 2017 at 4:56 pm #1202083732
A lot of experts predicting martin. She is really good but I find Sheri Shepard a little better. But NBC gets points i mean two amazing comedies in one year is impressiveMay 8, 2017 at 2:51 pm #1202087516
This poor show…these poor people…I mean, they have so many good intentions, but who takes this to NBC? Because it’s the place where 30 Rock and others were? No. It’s doomed.
NBC would be wise to keep this around with Superstore, Trial & Error and whatever they have for Pilot Season, but they won’t do it, of course.
It’s a show with such good material, but some poor casting choices. I wanna like John Michael Higgins, but he can be annoying really fast and he’s basically playing yet another one of his one note characters. It’s the same shit from his Christopher Guest roles, to his role on Fran Drescher’s show, and everything in between, before or after. Adam Campbell? Really? This guy is another one who can be good, but never good enough to be a lead. He’s already been pushed aside and only 4 episodes have aired. And Hollywood needs to stop trying to make Briga Heelan happen. Nice actress, funny, but it’s not happening.
The strength of Andrea Martin is what keeps this going. And supporting my ass, that woman is basically the lead of this show. The fact that she’s the mother, the intruder, the intern, the typical mom, doesn’t mean she’s supporting anybody. She’s on screen longer than anybody else. I’m pretty sure all 4 episodes have basically been about her, because of her, started by her, influenced by her, resolved by her. It’s the Carol show.
They’ve had some hilarious moments, fine comedy everywhere, they have managed to make Nicole Richie reliably funny and a good actress with a good character for the show, the whole setting could work perfectly. I mean, of course, it’s Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and Tracey Wigfield. But the characters for Higgins and Campbell are annoying and repetitive, their performances don’t help, and they’re wasting Horatio Sanz. It’s all about Carol and Katie, and I’m not sure if Martin is enough for viewers or if Heelan is doing as much as she needs to.
War is Hell has been their best episode. Martin killed that one. Yes, the reveal in the control or editing room was amazing.
