Emmy voters didn’t watch either Martindale episode and if they watched Abraham’s episode he wouldn’t have even been nominated. Name-checks go a long way, no matter how annoying that can be.

I am just wondering if enough of them saw Britton’s episode – if they did, he is winning this in a landslide. If they didn’t they will resort to either Simpson or Abhraham.

And then there is Goode in the middle of all of this. The nod for Kirby shows they saw this storyline, but he might be too subtle.

But Alexis Bledel won for an episode where she doesn’t say a single word. I agree though, the role is probably not flashy enough. Ugh. He would be my personal pick.

Guest Actor in a Drama Series
Ron Cephas Jones vs F Murray Abraham

They almost always go for the veteran actor who has worked in the industry for a long time.

    – F Murray Abraham’s nomination could be attributed to his 2017 critically acclaimed performance in Homeland, for which he was not nominated last year. The Emmys sometimes try and make up for past wrongs (Ben Mendohlson etc)

My guess is Ron Cephas Jones wins the Emmy easily though. He has worked in television since the 90’s, he is in an extremely popular show and he is coming off a Drama Supporting Actor nomination for the same performance.

They didn’t see Metcalf’s episode when she was the only nominee for Horace and Pete in 2016, so why should we expect any different this time under the exact same voting system? I think Abraham is winning, but Jones is a veteran who does nothing, less than Martindale as well. Him winning would also be a complete disaster credibility-wise for the Emmys.

Why are you hating so much on Jones and McRaney? Their roles were not cameos, their roles were the typical guest performances in an episode. They both have long and emotional scenes (exactly in the style of their show).Simpson´s scenes are not bigger in any way. Goode and Britton are obviously the most deserving, but Simpson, McRaney and Jones would not be a terrible winners. A win of Abraham would be a joke, I hope it does not happen.

Jones would be an easy call for me if McRaney was not in contention.

It will be really remarkable if Jones somehow overcomes vote splitting, but I can totally see it happening now.

If they remember him from last year, he might pull off a surprise win. His only issue is McRaney

I agree. Abraham is the only cameo IMO.

My rule is that if Glatter doesn’t get in for Directing, Homeland has no chance in any other categories, it’s just filler.

Tiffany Haddish is having one hell of a year, starting last year. She’s the hot new thing and she can just light up the room. Her Oscars appearance was priceless, honestly. And we know this category loooves SNL. Also, her episode is amazing!! She has so much energy and can make you laugh so easily. I am not confident in predicting her but she’s a safe bet I think. I guess Lynch is a real threat but idk if she has any steam here tbh. But it is Jane Lynch after all I guess…

Tiffany’s opening was hilarious, but I was distracted by her clumsily reading the cue cards in most of her other scenes.

I need to watch Jane Lynch’s submission. Of the rest that I have seen, Molly Shannon is out front for me.
