Just watched this comedy special recently on Netflix, and it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Hannah Gadsby is winning some Emmys next year. View this immediately!

I was WAITING for someone to start a thread on this. I kept putting it off because I’ve been busy with other stuff going on in my life, but YES WATCH NANETTE IMMEDIATELY! Hannah Gadsby delivered some really thought-provoking stuff that whether or not you agree with it, you’ve got to admit you can see where she is coming from. This special was a very impressive work of social commentary and personal stories that I hope Emmy voters are wise enough to remember to reward next year. Netflix cannot let the buzz around this die by this time next year. Gasby is too unique, clever, and sincere a voice to be criminally snubbed by any credible awards group in my eyes.

For your Goldderby Film Awards consideration: Isle of Dogs for every category, especially Music Score for Alexandre Desplat!

I’ve never cried during something that I perceived to be standup special, but she had me laughing and then utterly breaking down. Her social commentary isn’t overburdened by the extreme political correctness present in society at the moment, but rather takes a balanced sensitive approach that above all champions love. This woman is amazing.

I 100% agree. I’m not usually that into comedy specials but after hearing so much hype about this show I watched it earlier this week and was moved to tears.

Powerful stuff. Consider the variety special writing race “locked up”!

Too bad that it will be competing in an odd year, so variety series writing will be on the main telecast and variety special writing will be booted to the Creative Arts and we will be deprived of seeing Hannah Gadsby on Fox with millions of viewers.

Powerful, riveting special. I don’t remember having such a whiplash of emotions where I went from laughing to crying in a stand-up special. Locked Emmys for Writing and even Special I’d say.

Watched this special a second time tonight. This is genre-defying and paradigm-shifting. It’s that important, that topical, that relevant, that everything, bitches! It’s winning some Emmys next year. I don’t see what comes along to topple it, at least in terms of Writing in a Variety Special. Bravo to Hannah Gadsby! I’m officially shooketh.

That was interesting and sometimes thought-provoking. It was also my first “stand up comedian” experience although, as she more than once underlined this was not just comedy; something very far from my personal tastes yet kind of refleshing. Uncomfortable enough to make worthwhile time; certainly not the kind of thing you easily forget.

I am curious to know which were your favourite parts, the ideas/concepts you thought were the most relevant, if you didn’t agree with something she said.
