This episode was good. Nothing really made me go wow tbh but it was good. My grade: B+

Jean Smart was trending last night on twitter. Is she a possible Golden Globe nominee? People really seemed to like her last night. (I haven’t been watching–no HBO.)

It’s possible but I wouldn’t predict it yet. I really don’t know this show’s trajectory awards-wise, especially with the lack of clarity over its status as a limited series (or drama series).

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

Whatever category the show ends up in, I hope the voters (especially Emmy voters) are paying close attention. “She Was Killed by Space Junk” features an absolutely fantastic performance from Smart, and she should be competitive, no matter the category. She is mesmerizing.

I totally agree. Far more worthy than most of the established contenders (Millie Bobby Brown etc).

Personally this episode was better than the first two episodes. Jean Smart and Jeremy Irons were so great! I’m really curious how Irons’ storyline will intersect with Tulsa storyline.

I think the show will have its fans but I just don’t see it being popular enough to break into the acting races beyond Regina King. I’d love to be wrong, though, and who knows with the Globes. They always have at least one WTF pick and Smart would be as good a bet as anyone.

Can’t look at Angela’s kid without thinking of Michael Jackson’s kid Blanket. It drives me crazy whenever he’s on screen.

I’m really liking the actor’s performance so far. Very capable of conveying complex emotion at a young age.

I had been operating under the belief that was a girl. I know realize my foolishness.

Anyway, I really liked this episode. I thought it was a fantastic introduction and showcase for Jean Smart, who absolutely killed it. The whole cast continues to be great, but this clearly belonged to Smart. I find it interesting how each episode so far has given a different character (Judd, Angela, Laurie) the primary focus. This choice actually makes me think of the original comic, which had a few chapters that specifically focus on one of the main characters. Talking about the comic, I really appreciate all the little touches and references to the original story that the creators have included. It’s also worth noting as long as I’m taking about the comic, I think people who didn’t read the source material are gonna struggle a little with this show. Rorschach’s journal is heavily tied into the main plot (or at least what seems to be the main plot right now) of Angela and the other officers fighting against the Seventh Kavalry, but it’s not to the extent that viewers won’t understand what’s going on. However, the characters of Laurie Blake, the currently out of focus Dr. Manhattan, and especially Adrian Veidt will likely confuse people (The sheer mystery that currently surrounds Veidt’s character is already confusing, so I can’t imagine what a viewer who’s never read or seen Watchmen thinks of this character) who don’t know the original story. Even people who’ve only seen the movie and aren’t aware of some of the changes it made may get confused about a few different things, such as the whole business with squid showers and Jeremy Irons dressing up in a campy outfit (not to say that the movie version’s outfit wasn’t campy in its own right). With all that being said, as a huge fan of Alan Moore’s original story, I’m happy that the show is being done this way. A show called Watchmen should be for fans of Watchmen. Anyway, while Smart was undeniably this episode’s MVP, I’m still loving Irons’ take on a possibly senile Ozymandias. The cast as a whole has me very interested, but it’s him who I really want to see more of. I’d also like to see more of Don Johnson, just so long as the flashbacks serve an actual purpose rather than just giving a big name more screen time. Overall, I’m still very excited for the future of this show. Great episode, and an absolutely wonderful performance by Jean Smart.

I am curious about this myself. I have not read the comic nor seen the Snyder movie but caught up with a recap of what seems to be the major points of the original story before the series premiere. I honestly felt like that was sufficient to give me grounding in the story but not sure if other Watchmen novices will feel the same.

(Also FYI This: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJmg0uc3CjY was the recap I watched which might be helpful for anyone looking)

Decent ep. Jean Smart was indeed so good. I just hope it’s a miniseries so she manages to get nominated. She should have been nominated for Dirty John this year too.
